Re: Is there a simple high temp probe that can handle BBQ te

Hi, I was hoping to get some advice on a temperature probe for the raspberry pi. You could consider also contact-less temperature sensors. For example, something like this one: http://www.elechouse.com/elechouse/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=152_158&products_id=2241 Best wishes, Ivan Zilic.

Re: Wireless Controller - 120/240 VAC

Hi, Check the datasheet MCP23008 is made by Microchip. Therefore, I'm considering their datasheet as the only relevant. It can be found here: ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/21919e.pdf On its page 24, take a look at the table row D041. It specifies Input High-Level voltages for pins SCL and...

Hi, Matthew, Your description is very high-level... Re: Wireless Controller - 120/240 VAC

Hi, I had a couple of MCP23008 chips laying around so that is what I used. I'm afraid that your design is improper. Summary: - you supply this chip with 5V, - minimum allowed voltage for high level on its serial pins is 4.0V (@ 5V supply), - actual voltage is max 3.3V (or even less, since schematics...

Re: Question about a relatively simple project.

Hi, I'm going to research opto-cuppler connections and see if this is a viable switch. Take this circuit: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=62783&p=465699&#p465699 What programming languages detect various states wired to the GPIO? You could go with Python, because you can get th...

Hi,

When something is not working, Mac is always involved... what is not the case for router and RasPi...

Take any network traffic sniffer (on 3rd computer, if possible) and check who is actually sending packets and who is silent.

Hi, This needs to be a v sturdy controller box Let me start at this hardware side... you can take standard foot switch(es) like this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/onoff-footswitch-with-635-mono-jack-plug-du98g More of them can be found here: http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp?N=2031+204021&Ns=...

Hi, now when trying to ping, I can see on tcpdump that the request goes from my ip, to the pi wall, but then the pi wall returns the request as refused. Refused ? Hi, So apologies if this is a stupid question... but is it safe to "hot-plug" things like LEDs, temperature/light sensors, or servo motors onto the GPIO pins on a rasPi? Or do I need to be specifically careful and only rewire my various creations when the raspi is powered fully down? Generally, you ...

Hi Richard, I agree with redhawk. The Rpi is not practical. There just isn't enough bandwidth or CPU power to do what you want. I don't want to be mean... but how do you know what I want... ;-) Let me write you my personal use case, where RasPi fits perfectly - I have a dedicated network drive which...

Re: using a Pi as virus scanner for other systems

Hi, With that said there is nothing wrong in using the Pi as a virus cleaner it's simply not practical to do so. This could be practical when we're talking about network drives (NAS)... or if we delegate the RasPi also to permanently "convert" USB drives into networked ones. (Just imagine a blog tit...
