Re: Official V4L2 driver

The module has a size of 54KB. Your download seems damaged. You can try to download it using wget: wget https://github.com/6by9/RPiTest/raw/master/v4l2_padding/bcm2835-v4l2.ko You can use md5sum to check your file. For my downloaded module which can be loaded fine it is: md5sum bcm2835-v4l2.ko 10592...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

It has not yet been included. The last firmware has only updated the "blobb", not the userland programs. But rpi-update always overwrites everything in /opt/vc. You can rerun ./buildme to install your compiled version again. (If you have keeped the userland folder it will just copy the already compi...

Re: Image Size Too Big

Ok, that is a nice project. So some hints to get even smaller file sizes: You need to have minimal noise for an effective jpeg compression. Use the lowest possible ISO value: -ISO 100 You can disable exif informations, if not needed: -x none And you should increase the -t value, 0.1 sec is small for...

Re: Image Size Too Big

Just want to add a link: http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/jpeg-quality.html The raspberrypi cam is more a "digital camera" than a usb webcam. So we need to compare it to i.e. a Canon EOS camera, these will usually have only 2 possible compression levels, i.e. fine and normal, fine will correspo...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Should be just this three steps:

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/raspberrypi/userland
cd userland
./buildme
(If it fails, i.e. cmake missing or some other complains, you can try to install the dependencies with "apt-get install build-essential git cmake" and rerun the ./buildme)

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

The changes have been merged today in the main userland repo( https://github.com/raspberrypi/userland/pull/158 ). But you will need to wait until a new firmware will be released. You can check https://twitter.com/RPF_Dev_Updates , there every new released "[firmware]" will be posted. Usually it shou...

Re: Image Size Too Big

Have you tried to disable the thumbnail image(-th 0:0:0, not sure about that.)? This should be a relative big part of your file size at low resolution and high compression.

Re: Image Size Too Big

Thanks for the quality values. I have tried to fill some values with my camera.
q_vs_quality.jpg
q_vs_quality.jpg (51.21 KiB) Viewed 14154 times
So we can adjust the high quality values very fine. But need to go down to small "-q" values for high compression. That's ok for me.

Re: Image Size Too Big

Can you use imagemagick's indentify to get the quality for your different q values? If you use identify -verbose image.jpg you find the value "Quality: " which should correspond approximately to the quality definition used by gimp and other tools. Would be interesting to plot your q values against t...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Thank you for your patch! With the changes in /opt/vc/include/interface/mmal/mmal_parameters_camera.h it was quite easy to modify the source (have tested it last night on my own, I was to curious about it). Works really well, now I can record a red wall and it stays red :) Edit: Just want to add a n...

Yes, I'm using it like this, but you see some oscillations at the beginning due to the gain ranges. But it is ok for me, the awb was the real problem.

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Thank you, this is a really nice new feature to set the awb gain levels.

Can we get something similar with the "-ex" switch? Setting it to off and specifying the analogue and digital gain together with the shutterspeed "-ss" would create a nice manual mode.

Re: camera skipping frames?

I can confirm the issue, I get the same behavior. It is a problem of the order of arguments. If you first specify -t 0 and then -tl 1000 it should work. The reason is that -t 0 switches frameNextMethod to "FRAME_NEXT_FOREVER" and the switch -tl sets "FRAME_NEXT_TIMELAPSE". So, if you first specify -...

You can try to upgrade to a newer firmware version using "rpi-update". This will update your raspistill version to1.3.7 which fixes some bugs.

Re: Idea for "hardware" motion detection

I would really like some thing similar, but for a different usage. I would like to trigger a recording by specifying a region of interest, say a 64x64+100+50 px window starting at image coordinate (100,50), which can be placed everywhere in the picture, and a threshold value. Then only the differenc...

Re: camera skipping frames?

I dunno - I've done quite a bit of timelapse stuff on my SD card, it still lives! Sure, but you can minimize the risk. If you do not want to store each frame and only want to overwrite a single file, which is served using a streaming software, I would prefer the tmpfs way. I think it depends on the...

Re: camera skipping frames?

You could try raspimjpeg http://www.raspberrypi.org/forum/viewto ... 46#p459346
written by silvanmelchior. This uses the preview port to capture jpegs and this could get you the desired framerate. You will lose a bit of image quality by not using the still image mode.

Perhaps changing line 450 in RaspiVid.c to copy terminating byte of filename ?

Code: Select all

-               strncpy(state->filename, argv[i + 1], len);

Re: new 2x2 bin mode and RAW output

In my opinion raspistill only uses the binning mode for preview and not for capturing stills. In still mode you will get full resolution images and only scale them down to the requested resolution, because it will give generally better image quality(beside the possible noise reduction for low light ...

I have used:

git clone https://github.com/JamesH65/userland
cd userland
git checkout framerate-fixes
./buildme
The version number has not changed.
