Re: HQ Camera external sync signals support added

Thank you very much for releasing this feature. I connected the XVS and ground of two imx477 modules, each module is connected to a different pi. Which is now the recommended procedure to capture? If I first start the sync and then start the source, the sync will not show any images and complains ab...

Re: HQ Camera 4K Video

Yes, but cropping after receiving from the sensor would be limit to 12fps and only MJPEG would be able to handle the size. The quality will be quite limited, bitrate currently set to max of 25Mbit for 12 images, or about 260kb for a 8MPix image. I guess 6by9 wanted the crop on sensor, or more precis...

Re: Setting back focus with HQ camera and Canon EF zoom lens

Try these step:
  • Screw the back focus adjustment ring in fully.
  • Aim the camera at a distant object, set focus on lens to infinity.
  • Now just use the back focus adjustment to get a focused image.
  • Fix the back focus adjustment.
Now you should be able to use the lens focus as expected.

Re: C vs CS lens, how do I know?

Sorry, your question does not make much sense. You have bought the lens, and there the type should have been mentioned or it should be written on it. C and CS lenses only have different flange focal distances. It is 17.526mm for C lens and 12.5mm for the CS lens. You can't use a CS lens on a C mount...

Re: HQ Camera Moon video test

I had recorded the moon on 25th of June for reference. It is amazing how fast it moves, if you zoom in with 250mm(on youtube) . The lens you can get used for about 100€. The 500mm mirror lens from the other thread is a cheap lens for about 100€ new. The quality of the mirror lens is a bit less than ...

Re: Q on 50X Telescope Zoom Mobile Phone Lens / HQ camera

You had asked in another thread, if I could provide images with the 250mm lens, but as the view from my flat is quite limited, I took the camera outside and captured a series of images with different lenses. The target was a about 6km away. It is Colonius, the Cologne telecommunications tower. We ca...

Re: Q on 50X Telescope Zoom Mobile Phone Lens / HQ camera

Marketing? It just has less then 10x, as you have measured, but 50x sounds better? Anyway, what do you expect from a 14$ optical device?! You also need to take the F-Number into account, you would effectively hav a 50x bigger focal length and a 50x bigger f-Number. If you had 1.4 for the 35mm lens y...

Usually, you set the back focus for the infinity setting of the lens, which means the lens is closest to the sensor. The lens is build to be placed at that position, relative to the sensor.

Re: Raspivid first frames dark

I think it can already be done without changes(if at least 1 second of startup time would be fine): raspivid -t 1 -i pause -td 5000,1000 -o test.h264 this will record 5s of video after waiting 1s. As long as the value of -t is smaller than the "off" time, it will just record one cycle. (The -td para...

It basically comes down to get correct timestamped audio and video frames. Thw link posted above a few posts ...

Re: Why no audio on the Pi camera module?

I just want to give my two cents, too. Video4Linux does not include audio, you need to have a separate source for audio. By design, the Raspberry Pi(or any other linux computer) receives the images from v4l2 and audio for example from alsa, pulseaudio or similar. The Raspberry Pi then takes both aud...

Re: HQ Camera not supported by 64bit or broken cam? :?: :(

For me using raspistill, raspivid etc does not work for 64bit, showing preview works fine, but if the images are going to be saved, it fails.
There are only limited cases where 64bit is really useful, for camera functions, I currently will stick to 32bit.

Setting the awb mode just sets a target color temperature range, the camera still change the gains to get something which seems to fit for the selected mode. Fixing awb will need to include -awb off -awbg b,r where here b (which could be for example 1.2) is the gain factor for the blue channel and r...

If you want to maintain 50mbps, you could skip the MP4Box part and bring the .h264 file into Handbrake and create your .mp4 file there. The preset 'Production Max' just gave me a 62mbps .mp4 on a test file I have. This is completely senseless. If you re-encode a video your quality can't improve, yo...

raspividyuv will just output 8-bit, by default YUV420 encoded image data. It is just the unencoded/uncompressed 8bit image data. raspiraw can get Bayer data in 12-bit and for still images raspistill -r will include a raw 12-bit Bayer image inside the jpeg. Realistically, there is currently no conven...

Re: Question on HQ camera 16mm telephoto lens aperture

Keywords for google: Depth of Field and F-Number ;) The diameter of the opening of the aperture has the size d=f/F, where F is the F-Number and f is the focal length of the lens. In your case you changed it from F-Number 1.6 (d=10mm) to 16 (d=1mm). For a perfect pinpoint camera everything will be in...

I would suggest to go for video and not still images. Do you have other requirements, like latency, or something? You stream via wifi, correct? For ffmpeg it is quite easy. ffmpeg -pixel_format yuv420p -video_size 4064x3040 -i test.yuv out%04d.png This will create uncompressed png where each png will be 23MB, yet it is reasonably fast on the pi.
