Re: Is Raspbian on an FTP site?

I eventually got it to boot this far with HDMI output. Looks like trouble with the SD card but it may be caused by the bad CRC. I have another SD card I can try. Colors got washed out in dropping the picture to 64K but it seems to have connected to something over ethernet. Got the minimal package fi...

Re: Is Raspbian on an FTP site?

Right. I also got an error message from unzip saying the CRC was wrong. Considering the time involved I wrote it to an SD card and tried to boot it anyway. Seems like it boots but I see no video. Red power light comes on, green ethernet link lights come on (there's a cable plugged in), the yellow li...

Re: Is Raspbian on an FTP site?

I'm not sure how that works out. My internet connection is through a cell phone and I get 5 gigs of fast data a month, then it drops to 2G. If somebody's connecting into my torrent connection the bandwidth they use comes out of my 5 gigs I think.

Is Raspbian on an FTP site?

I spent about 36 hours downloading the big Raspian with wget only to have it fail the SHA test. I've used wget whenever possible for 15 years or so and generally have better results over an FTP connection rather than HTTP. So can I fetch this by FTP?

Re: Funky C++ compiler

I've got a 64 gig SD card so I did it a more classic way. I just changed /etc/dphys-swapfile to give myself 1.5 gigs of swap and it worked. Tried 400 megs first, that bombed. This takes almost 24 hours to build anyway, I don't have an accurate figure because I wasn't sitting in front of it. I'm enjo...

Re: Funky C++ compiler

Thanks, I never would have suspected that (great error message). There's a lot I can shut down, I never realized that was the problem. And it probably used to work because I was loading less crap then.

Funky C++ compiler

I'm trying to build Gnuradio which I had done successfully about 6 months ago. OS is Raspbian, gcc is gcc (Debian 4.6.3-14+rpi1) 4.6.3, I've been doing apt-get update and apt-get upgrade fairly often lately, last time about 2 days ago but I've seen this problem for at least a month. [ 34%] Building ...

freebsd-arm list

For anyone that doesn't know about it, there's a FreeBSD list specific to the Arm processor, it seems to be fairly active. There are archives at
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-arm/
(and maybe other places)

You can subscribe at http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-arm

Re: Hosed my Raspian

OK, I'm downloading Linux Reader. I was thinking Linux used a different file system type on SD cards from what it uses on hard drives. This at least does more than ext 2/3/4. I don't have another working Linux system except an old i386 Debian 5.03. I bought the card preloaded with Raspian. My spare ...

Hosed my Raspian

I was trying to clear up a problem I was seeing with an Adafruit PiTFT board by removing (dpkg -P) all the Adafruit debs. I probably should have installed a generic bootloader over Adafruit's but for some reason I thought it would revert. It didn't and now it won't boot, there's no video out and the...

Limited GCC choices?

I tried to build mc, which I've relied on heavily for years. Something in the dependencies wants libgcrypt, which wants gcc 4.6.4, which won't build on Arm. No GCC later than that will build either. Seems like there ought to be a way to fix this upstream (in release 10). I don't care anything about ...

PiTFT support in FreeBSD?

Time rambles on and now I've got the official 10.0 release and an Adafruit PiTFT display as well as the camera that plugs in the mainboard. Still downloading stuff but I wonder what FreeBSD support there might be for the PiTFT?

Re: motion detector

Timelapse to me implies the compression of time, like if you want to make a video of a seedling growing or clouds moving overhead at an accelerated rate. I'll probably write something in C but I'm concerned that the change will be too small to detect, like if a brown animal blocks the green backgrou...

Re: motion detector

Try searching this forum for "wildlife", I just did, got 3 pages of hits. It's been done before. I've got a Nikon digital SLR that I added the WiFi adapter to for shooting remotely. But (1) I get tired of watching for something to show up and (2) the WiFi range is too short. So I'm thinking my Pi an...

Trouble building ports

I've got the image from http://www.db.net/downloads/bsd-pi-252209M.img.xz loaded, which is FreeBSD 10 CURRENT and a CURRENT ports tree for 10, and I'm seeing a bunch of strange problems with a couple ports now. The latest is devel/gettext. Errors that are telling me to submit a bug report to places ...

camera support in FreeBSD?

Just wondering if FreeBSD supports the Pi official camera yet? I'm only interested in doing stills, not video.

Thanks,

When I get this file it references a ../Makefile.include but I don't see any such file on github: https://github.com/raspberrypi/userland/blob/master/host_applications/linux/apps/raspicam/Makefile I mean, I'm newish to Linux, mostly I use OpenBSD, but I have this Raspberry Pi with camera so I'm slum...

Re: 27 MHz radio remote control

I don't know about the original poster's scenario, but if you plug a $20 SDR dongle into one of the USB ports there are lots of interesting possibilities for for radio controlling model planes, cars, boats. And/or having the official camera for taking pictures from planes or doing wildlife photograp...
