Re: picamera's raw bayer data

Could anyone please confirm whether one can take raw bayer data from the picamera? I mean not the 'jpeg+raw', but pure full resolution raw bayer data. Would it be possible? In my experience the camera.capture(filename, 'bayer') didn't work. It just took long time to wait but never capture an image....

Re: Compound Pi

Hi Dave, I have been playing around with this for 4 months now and feel I know it pretty well but one thing I have not been able to get to work yet are various client commands such as brightness, contrast etc, I am just given syntax error as a response. I have followed your guide on the readthedocs...

Re: Volunteers to assist with this project: Honey Bee Counte

I was thinking to record at 90 fps but do you think 60 would be enough? the more images the better. If it's too much, it's always possible to drop images while processing. How much effort would it be for you to modify the code to take live input from the Raspberry Pi camera module as opposed to pro...

Re: Remove metering

Patch just released that corrects the digital gain initialisation. sudo rpi-update to get it for those wanting to test. Thanks for the patch! Now the gains are both set to 1 if exposure mode is initial set to MMAL_PARAM_EXPOSUREMODE_OFF. And the exposure time is set to ~10ms if not specified. It wo...

Re: Announcement: picraft 0.4

Picraft 0.4 is now released and with a bit of luck some Raspbian packages might appear for it in the near future. There's a bunch of new functionality, the most important of which is the new event driven programming stuff. This allows you to forget about running your own event loop and delegate that...

... Is there information anywhere that provides a list of the modules, e.g number etc..? This will help with any new programs that I create for the AstroPi. Chris. The list for the Python standard library can be found in the Python 2 docs and the Python 3 docs (yes, it's quite a long list - worth p...

Re: ImportError: cannot import name AstroPi

You can see the first entry there is '' which simply means the current path. But you were running Python interactively. I stress again that within a script, sys.path will not normally contain the empty element, and import will not search the current directory, rather the directory where the script ...

Re: ImportError: cannot import name AstroPi

It's because Python's import hierarchy starts with files in the current folder before looking in the installed modules. It is odd, though. I wonder if numpy should be using relative imports "import .number" rather than "import number"? Indeed - the default Python search path looks something like th...

Re: Pure Python camera interface

If you want video frame rates (30 fps or more) you should probably use the video codec, which is .h264 that way you can even get full HD at 30 fps. Just to follow up on jbeale's point (which is well made), it's probably about time I did a post on realistic processing limits on the Pi... Whenever yo...

Hi Dave, with the following code I am getting an output FPS of 20~22 and I can't manage to get anything better than that. My target is to be able to capture 720p at 30FPS, do you think this is in any way possible? import io import time import picamera with picamera.PiCamera() as camera: camera.fram...

Re: Announcement: picraft 0.2

Well, as befits an alpha release there was a major bug in 0.1 which prevented the PyPI install from working (namely: Dave can't even spell the project's name correctly in the MANIFEST file); although the GitHub/venv install still worked. That should now be fixed along with a few other bugs and 0.2 s...

Dave has missed the most common camera problem. The SUNNY connector between the image sensor and the camera board. It needs a firm amount of pressure between a finger and thumb to reseat that connector. [Note: take static precautions first.] http://regmedia.co.uk/2013/02/07/suny_camera_module.jpg A...

Re: still capture rate (still FPS)

After reading this thread, I still can't get my head around on how to shoot full frame still at 15 fps. I've got a Raspberry Pi 2 and mounted a ramdisk in order to avoid the SD card bottleneck. My objective is to take just 2 pictures as quickly as possible. When I use the following command: raspist...

I'm getting a strange error when I try to take a still with the camera module - I noticed that somebody mentioned it about a year ago in this thread, but I couldn't find a solution in there. Good morning, I was awakened by cats fighting outside and couldn't go back to sleep, so I thought I would work on getting my camera to work on my PI2. raspistill -o photo.jpg works just fine, but the simplest example from picamera fails. But it has failed in two distinctly different ways. Initially...

Re: Pure Python camera interface

Picamera 1.10 is now out on PyPI, and should hit Raspbian in a few days time. See the changelog for the full details of the release. On a personal note, this is a slightly rushed release (don't worry, I've run the test suite!) because our first child is now imminent (a few days earlier than expected...

Re: Image capturing duration

Yup, there's very little difference in performance between shelling out for raspistill and using picamera if all you're concerned about is capturing an image. With the former you've got a nice fast C program, but you've got the overhead of spawning a new process. Just to add to Dave's comment if yo...

Re: Compound Pi

Very neat stuff! Have you tried any measurements to see how closely matched the timing is, when triggering with a broadcast packet? The short answer is: up to a frame's worth of difference plus whatever latency the network introduces (i.e. if your cameras are running at 30fps, and your network intr...
