Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

1) Notifying whenever your public IP changes is a service that has nothing to do with motionPie. No, I will not add such a feature to motionPie. I suggest using a second Raspberry PI with Raspbian for this purpose. 2) Yes, the entire root filesystem is replaced with each "firmware" update. The /data...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

A DNS server set to 0.0.0.0 is invalid. Use 8.8.8.8, for example. Your local 192.168.0.1 router should also work. Without DNS, NTP and SMTP won't work. That means your date/time will be wrong and email notifications won't work. Marvelous work! I'm a relative noob, but have successfully set up 2 RPi ...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Of course that's possible. It's opensource after all. You may want to take a look at motionEye https://bitbucket.org/ccrisan/motioneye/wiki/Home and get familiar with the code. It's JS + CSS on the client side and Python/Tornado on the "server" side. If you want to change the files directly on your ...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

The 20150112 is out and should fix the login issue: https://github.com/ccrisan/motionPie/releases/tag/20150112. I apologize for the inconvenience and I hope this version fixes all your recent issues. If it doesn't, please let me know. There seems to be a bug with the new version not prompting for lo...

There seems to be a bug with the new version not prompting for login when password is empty (by default). Don't upgrade and don't use it for now.

Use the following settings: Network Server: ROUTER (or 192.168.1.1) Share Name: usb Share Username : admin Share Password : admin (the credentials of your router) Root Directory : /usb1_5 The program is ok! Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

There's a motion.conf and a thread-1.conf in /data/etc/. Those are the ones you should edit. Detection area parameters should be left untouched when applying settings from the UI, so everything should work as expected. You were right, I hadn't set the permissions of my server's shared directory corr...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Actually NFS != SMB. NFS has nothing to do with motionPie and hopefully will never have. Your write protection issue may come from the fact that the "guest" user on the server is mapped to some unprivileged unix user (such as "nobody"). Simply saying "read only = no" in a share's config doesn't make...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

It is normal for the stream to be a bit laggy on Raspberry PI. I'm using it myself at 640x480@5fps and I'm happy with the results but it's not as fluent as one would like; especially when configuring it to record movies, detect motion and do other things in the background. It's the CPU that limits t...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

When you use win32 disk imager (or dd, or even writeimage.sh) you *don't* make an update, you actually rewrite your SD card. Updating is achieved using the update button in the UI. That's the only way to preserve your data. Hi Another Newbie Question When I last updated writing to the sd card with w...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Yes, 3g modem support is planned and partially included. I just haven't gotten enough usb adapters to test and the usb-modeswitch crap is giving me headaches. And there's also the matter of private ip addresses which are often used with these modems and that make the unit inaccessible from the inter...

Some kind of workaround is add more time for motion gap, but this isnt quite w...

Hi, It's difficult to tell what the problem might be in these cases. There's one thing though, you have both "guest ok = yes" and "valid users = ben". Do you plan to use this share authenticated or not? What is your "map to guest" setting's value? You can try to manually mount the share (from an SSH...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

The reboot loop usually happens when the wifi is configured but the connection does not succeed for some reason. It behaves like a software watchdog, resetting the system in case of connection issues. Make sure you: (a) have a supported wifi adapter (i.e. you're seeing it as wlan0 when issuing an iw...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

I have identified the problem with the update mechanism: newer rpi-buildroot versions (on which motionPie is based) use start.elf and fixup.elf in config.txt regardless of the variant (they are no longer suffixed with "_cd" or "_x"). Given that config.txt is (almost entirely) preserved across update...

Nope, you cannot install anything on motionPie. You should install a dynamic dns service on any other machine you have permanently running in your house.
