Re: Touch Screen LCD

Are you certain that that datasheet for the iphone4 is accurate? Also, do the drivers exist for the DSI connector yet? I'm aware that the GPU covers that, and since the GPU is proprietary, I don't want to have any surprises when I try to make these things.

Re: Plan for a DIY laptop, but will it work?

<t>I would recommend LiPo batteries. They have amazing energy density and they don't seem too expensive, depends on the size though. For my PDAs, I'm planning on getting a 2Ah 3.7v battery with a 5v booster. You can always buy a 7.2v LiPo and regulate that down to 5v too. Here is a list of the parts...

Re: Cheap 3" screen?

The RPi has a DSI connector, and the Nokia N8 cell phone screen uses DSI. You can buy a replacement one for about $35 online. Its about 3.5".

Re: Simple and Cheap PDAs

Yeah, I might end up using the Nokia N8 screen, which is higher quality, but about twice as expensive. It apparently uses the DSI link, which makes a direct connection possible.

Re: Car Security Camera System

<t>Perhaps I'm oversimplifying this a bit, but I think I have a way to use multiple cameras on the RPi. I am planning on using a GPIO to toggle (1 or 0) and use transistors to allow camera0 or camera1 signals though the CSI interface. It could also be expanded (using more GPIOs) to allow many more c...

Re: Simple and Cheap PDAs

I have drafted a very preliminary Bill of Materials for the PDA here. Please add any suggestions to it if you have any. Total cost sits at $116 (assuming a $10 case) and only $106 if you use your own case. Shipping prices are not included.

<r>I'm going to be making some PDAs using the RPi when they come out. I am planning on making two of them, one with a camera and one without. Right now I'm figuring out what parts I'll need and I will order them before the RPi's are released. I was discussing the screen here: <URL url="http://www.ra...

Also, does the LCD just use the standard LVDS link and what kind of plug is it?

Re: Touch Screen LCD

<t>Thanks for all the help; I'll call them on Monday. Quick question about the digitizer though. Can you point me in the direction of some information about it's interface? I know how the four-pin resistive panels work, but the iPhone digitizer uses projected capacitance, which I am not familiar wit...

Re: Security Camera System

Why don't you get a CMOS image sensor and directly connect it to the CSI connector. It might be cheaper and probably higher quality.

Re: Touch Screen LCD

How about this screen: http://www.newark.com/kentec-e.....20Displays ? The size is perfect, it has the touch panel and it also has a controller built in. Would I just use the GPIOs to interface with the controller?

That would be a 4in. diagonal screen (3.98in to be exact), which fits perfectly with the purpose of the device.

Re: Touch Screen LCD

<t>7 inches is way too big for this. I'm trying to get a screen that is about as big as the raspberry pi board so that it all fits nicely. I want it to feel the same as a smart phone or any other PDA, so probably a 3.5-4.5 inch max. Also, how do professionally developed PDAs and smartphones connect ...

Re: Touch Screen LCD

The end goal is to have a small touch screen PDA-like device. So obviously cost and size are the main goals here. I am planning on making about 4-6 of them to use on an experiment involving technology in schools, so cost is really key here.

Re: Touch Screen LCD

Thanks for the reply. I can manage a 20v connection, I'm just worried about connecting the LCD data signals to the board. If I were to connect using HDMI, how would I do it? I'm assuming I would need some sort of HDMI controller?
