Re: Can GPIO be used for simple "pass through" on/off switch

Not sure what you mean by the Pi may not be able to drive the relay. There are plenty of relay boards out there specifically designed for the Pi... they even have "shield" boards now that plug directly into the GPIO header. I would assume those boards are designed with relays that use whatever volta...

Can GPIO be used for simple "pass through" on/off switching?

Not quite sure if I am asking this question the right way... but I'll try my best to explain. Can I use the GPIO to do simple "pass through" on/off switching? What I need to figure out is can I use the pins on the GPIO DIRECTLY to open and close a circuit WITHOUT passing voltage from the Pi to the d...

Re: How do I make clone/backup image of my SD card?

Awesome! Thank you all for the suggestions :-) I think the ability to re-save my current setup as a complete .img file is the best option for me as I can save copies of it anywhere I want or make a backup card to keep handy should I do something to corrupt the card I'm using in the Pi at the moment....

How do I make clone/backup image of my SD card?

OK... so I've been experimenting a LOT with Raspbian and Pidora and have gotten most of the programming and functionality for my projects working and now I want to make full clones and or backup images of my SD cards just in case I break something or have a card get corrupted for some reason. This w...

Re: Get black screen trying to use VNC to remot into my Pi

Nope, that still didn't work... still only getting the black screen and mouse cursor in the vnc client app. I've wasted 2 days on this issue and this is getting really frustrating... this is really simple stuff that should work "out of the box" without all these problems but this is now the one thin...

Re: Get black screen trying to use VNC to remot into my Pi

OK malcomh... so I added the line "startxfce4 &" to the beginning of my ~/.vnc/xstartup file and... it still doesn't work. When I try to connect to the Pi from my laptop with the vnc client app all I get is a black screen and an error message that pops up saying "failed to start session 'gnome' ". A...

Re: Get black screen trying to use VNC to remot into my Pi

Thank you for the reply, but could you please clarify exactly what this does? I am still somewhat new to Linux and don't like entering CLI stuff or editing system files without knowing exactly what and why I am doing. Thanks :-)

Get black screen trying to use VNC to remot into my Pi

OK... so I am running Pidora on the Pi with TigerVNC as the vnc server. I am trying to remote into the Pi from my Ubuntu 12.10 laptop using Remmina Remote Desktop client. I get a connection, but the client screen just shows up black with the 'X' shaped mouse cursor. I have disabled IPv6 on both the ...

PLEASE HELP... need longer Pi Camera cable

Hello... I have recently received my R-Pi and a camera module. I have also added an RTC module as well as a small stepper motor controller. My goal is to build a small, battery operated, self contained, time-lapse motion-control camera unit. Unfortunately the cable that ships with the camera module ...
