Re: Can not logout of xfce, it restarts automatically?

No... it had nothing to do with forcing an update to the firmware... this started happening right after I setup the autologin for the sudo user and XFCE per the instructions on the Arch Wiki... which I did long before the firmware update. But yeah, the forced firmware update did break my CMA somehow...

Can not logout of xfce, it restarts automatically?

Not sure what I did here, but I'm running Arch, and I have my boot up process set to automatically log me in as my sudo user, and then automatically start up xfce. That all works just fine, and I need it to do the autologins at boot for what I'm doing. However, if I want to logout of xfce I am havin...

Yes, thank you .. I do believe I did mention that in bold type in my original post. Some people may want the newer firmware without having to wait for the distro update.

Arch hangs on boot at vchiq_get_state

I am running Arch and I just did a system and firmware update "pacman -Syu" and "rpi-update" and soft-booted my pi. It booted just fine and everything looked ok on the boot messages... no errors. Later I turned off the Pi and came back after dinner and powered it up and now it's hanging on the boot ...

Tutorial for updating R-Pi firmware in ARCH LINUX [obsolete]

I had considerable trouble trying to find clear instructions on how to update the Raspberry Pi firmware in ARCH LINUX. Most of the other instructions out there are written for Linux distros other than Arch and the CLIs don't work for Arch. So I decided to help out here and offer some simple instruc...

In ARCH. How to disable "last login" timestamp boot message?

OK... I've spent a whole day Googleing this one and none of the file mods or CLI code I've tried so far have managed to stop that annoying " Last login: <day month time> on tty1 " message from popping up after I boot my Pi running ARCH. Can someone please tell me how to get rid of that message? I on...

Re: Can not install ARCH image to SD card... process hangs

Already have gphoto2 installed on Arch and so far it seems to be working... camera fires and moves the picture to the Pi every time without hanging. The true test will be a long time lapse shoot. Yes, the first time I tried gphoto2 in Raspbian it must have been the older version... but I also tried ...

Re: Can not install ARCH image to SD card... process hangs

Thank you pepdog and sdjf, You guys are not really off topic... I did get a lot working in the past few hours. I learn very quickly once I have good clear instructions to follow. In fact I just started up XFCE! WOO HOO! A working GUI! Progress feels good :-) And the other links Oakham provided for t...

Oakham... thank you for the links! I am checking them out and already making some progress... However you should know... The http://elinux.org/ArchLinux_Install_Guide site is out of date or just wrong... many of the files they say to edit for the initial install do not exist or may have different na...

OK... I'm not trying to be rude, but I have no idea what you people are talking about. I'm totally new to Arch and mostly new to LINUX as a whole... only been using Ubuntu for 8 months... So... when explaining things to me (or anyone for that matter) on a forum where there are obviously a LOT of noo...

I did the checksum and the file is fine... numbers all match.

Can you please clarify the command line instructions a bit...
What do you mean "sync after burn" and "check no automount occured with df"?

Thanks.

Well... I can't seem to get Arch to install... can't write the .img file to the SD card. I'm using ImageWriter on my Ubuntu laptop and when I try to write the .img file the program hangs and does nothing... just sits there till I kill it. I am not having this problem with any of the other .img distr...

Is anyone else having this problem? I am trying using ImageWriter on my Ubuntu laptop and trying to write the Arch image file to my SD card but ImageWriter hangs and the card never gets written. I am only having this problem with the Arch image file... all of the other distros write with no problem....

It's not just outdated... it was never finished... and never will be... and will no longer have any support from the developers... why keep it posted here as a viable OS when it's not? It's full of bugs, even it's first-boot configuration app doesn't work properly... and it doesn't have many softwar...

Trust me, I fully understand and appreciate that the R-Pi is an educational tool and that was it's core purpose. And I am all for it. How do I update Pi firmware in Pidora?

I want to make sure I'm running the newest firmware for my Pi in Pidora. I know Raspbian has the "rpi-update" command, but that doesn't work in Pidora.
How do I do this in Pidora?
Can't seem to find anything on this forum or on google that explains this.
Thanks.
