Cheap Chinese boards Ebay / Banggood

Hi, I'm always tempted by the cheap board you see on eBay or Banggood for the Arduino. I buy to many and normally they sit in my study, and occasionally I have wired them up to my Arduino. I love the idea of IoT and doing things like display RSS feeds, news or weather. The Raspberry Pi is better for...

GPIO Input/Output

Hello, Sorry in advance for the basic question... I'm getting my head around the digital pins on the Raspberry Pi. I'm fine with outputs but I'm confused how the inputs work. If I get a 3V battery and connect the negative connector to ground, and the positive to the GPIO port which is set as input w...

Hi,

I found it OK, obviously not great, but playable.

It was more the fact that it worked.

Re: Error 1603 installing Win10 SDK

Hi, There is a post on the Microsoft Support site here which may help? Are you using the Windows 10 Technical preview or something different? https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/4162f7d3-0e0a-4e29-899c-14f5d34e7675/error-installing-emulator-for-android-component-for-visual-studio-2015-rc-...

Invaders Arcade Game

Hi, I have been learning C# from a book called 'Heads First' from Wiley. There is a sample game of invaders at the end and the source code is available here (via CodePlex) https://invaders.codeplex.com/SourceControl/latest Once you load it into Visual Studio you need to upgrade the app to Windows 8....

Re: Xmal designer won't load when trying to create windows 1

Hi,

I found the same. I got around it by designing the UI with anything other than x64 or ARM selected, then when you ready to publish you can then change to ARM.

Keeping notes and development snippets

Hi,

I'm just interested what people use to keep programming and general IT notes? Evernote, Google Keep, notebook or anything else?

Thanks

Powering Down Windows 10 IoT

Hello,

When I go to the power icon on the top right hand corner of the Windows IoT screen to power down my Pi and click on shut-down, but my Pi restarts instead..

Have I missed a bug report?

Thanks

Re: A polite & measured discussion about software and busine

Opensource only accounts for a tiny percentage of the desktop market. We need to get young people using Microsoft Technologies, otherwise when they enter the mainstream workplace they are likely to be left behind.

Hello, Can I just comment that I whilst I fully understand why you moved the comments which were Microsoft bashing from Windows IoT forum to another more appropriate posting, you have not moved the post from 'DougieLawson' which started all the debate. This does seem rather odd, as without his post ...

Best to close this and agree to disagree. Open Source has exactly the same issues with some many projects closed and nobody to take them on. It can be just a painful when you get to rely on an opensource project and it dies.

Different views on subjects are a good thing.

Re: Problems installing WindowsDeveloperProgramforIoT.msi

Hi, Unfortunately most of us would not know how to make changes to Open Source software, so to me it does not make much difference. I do agree with you though, as I used many Google apps (Such as the RSS Reader which I loved) in the past, only to find that Google has scrapped development on them and...

Theyare obviously there to make a profit, but that is rather cynical. Embrace it. Pick the right tool for the job, regardless of it is closed or open source.

I'm not saying its wrong to use the "community" of volunteers. Open Source does this all the time.

There is a very clear tutorial here. If you are still having problems I suggest starting again from Re-installing Windows 10.
