Re: RPi connecting to Active Directory domain?

Another edit/update: I managed to connect to the domain by following this guide. The only remaining issue is how to actually access files. Are there no guides for this? I find it hard to believe that I am the only one here wanting to do this type of thing, and the lack of detailed information to be ...

Re: VERRYY SLOW Brand New PI

Well remember the Pis only have a 700Mhz ARM processor, its not very fast. Just browsing the internet is a pain, toss in another tab and things start chugging like the little engine who couldn't.

If the thing boots in about 10-20 seconds, you are doing just fine, generally.

Re: how to automatical start and shutdown on Raspberry

I am one of those that shut all my computers down when not in use. Reason #1 power savings. Reason #2 security Reason #3 performance My RasPi WordPress server stays on. Yeah, I wouldn't want to leave my main computer on all the time. It has some beastly hardware, but once i get my Pi set up, with w...

Re: how to automatical start and shutdown on Raspberry

Yeah, the power usage is no more then changing a cellphone. It literally costs pennies a year.

Perhaps scheduling a reboot instead would be more appropriate?

Re: RPi connecting to Active Directory domain?

Well its been a few days, so I thought id give this a bump and make sure its still alive. I was looking at guides, like the one below, and it seems very vague as to what information exactly is changing, where I need to put in my information, etc. I can extrapolate only so far before I am unsure what...

RPi connecting to Active Directory domain?

Is there a laymans guide for connecting to an Active Directory domain? Everything I find, as little as there is, just lists config files and doesn't really explain what to do with them, where to put information, etc. All I need is to be able to connect my Pi to a domain, period. I can grasp when I n...

Re: Raspberry PI update

Like any software, downloading updates can be very beneficial. Given the Pi is in its technological infancy, there will be many improvements in efficiency of the software, as well as added features.

Re: rotate display and user login

That would be fantastic. Either some sort of validation of my issue, or a process of what I am doing wrong would be invaluable. ****EDIT**** I managed to solve my issue. I ran some updates (apt-get update and apt-get upgrade) and upon rebooting the display successfully rotated. Thank you all for you...

Re: rotate display and user login

Login is working great. Thanks for that information. As for the rotating display, still no luck. I tried "display_rotate" and "rotate_display" with no results. Another question to add to the stack. What is the best way, if possible, to connect to a windows based domain (Active Directory). Or, ...

Re: rotate display and user login

I got screen rotation to work (on a monitor that can rotate on it's stand) by adding: rotate_display=3 to the end of /boot/config.txt I don't know how sensitive config.txt is to embedded whitespace. "rotate_display=#"? Did i just get it backwards? Ugg, I'm going to punch a wall if it was that simpl...

rotate display and user login

I have a few issues I can't seem to find information on and/or don't seem to work. The first issue is, I need to rotate the display by 90 degrees. The Pis I am setting up are going to be used to display company reports on vertically mounted TVs, so this is essential, else the whole project fails. I ...
