Re: Pi Zero for NAS ?

It will work ok, but relatively slowly.

Expect 2-3 megabyte/sec speeds,
compared to 10 meg/sec if using an Ethernet based pi model.

Re: Scratch 3

Tried it on a PI3 (stretch, updated) in chromium and the CPU is pegged at 97% even while just idle /dragging blocks. Sluggish, but usable for making a test script. Big problem is the stage doesn't show - but the script is running as I can see the sprite x/y values changing. Pi3 under firefox-esr the...

Re: Windows 95/98/XP on Raspbian?!

You can do this with qemu, and it's workable, but not that fast or efficient:

maybe Pentium 200Mhz speed

There's a quick guide for setup here:

Re: Any way to turn the Pi Zero off except for an MCU + MOSFET?

I wonder if this is over thinking the issue and comparing flash SSD to SD cards - which are different. SSDs do a lot of idle time wear levelling, I'm not convinced SD cards are the same as they are specifically removable devices. Nearest I could find from sandisk themselves: https://web.archive.org/...

Re: Robotic Observatory: Should I Solder the Pi Zero when done Prototyping the Circuits?

I generally take the view of "if its permanent, solder it" - I've seen plenty of problems with single dupont wires becoming disconnected - not from vibration, but from user handling ! I've not seen any problems with the full headers though - take a bit more force to remove, so more secure, maybe sol...

Re: Any way to turn the Pi Zero off except for an MCU + MOSFET?

There's an instructable for this using a digitspark attiny85 :

that uses a relay, but you could use a FET

Re: Brightness settings using GUI

I can not find the screen brightness settings on this system. I think it's supposed to map to the function keys ( and this is a common issue with LXDE it seems from a google search) You could also install xbacklight: sudo apt-get install xbacklight xbacklight -set 50 But that didn't work on my 2009...

Re: Broadcom BCM2835 Power Saving

zero run a whole day on a 2600mAh pack IME the lowest you can go to is 65mA on a pi (by [url=]turning off usb and hdmi) https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=127210 That would give 40hrs of "standby" with a 2600mAh pack. (2600 /65) Reduce that time for active use, and non perfect ...

Thanks everyone for your replies. I will do as jbudd says and buy from a British reseller - probably one recommended on this website. Re: Use Wifi in latest raspbian lite stretch in headless mode

Sigh. After 2 hours of messing around, I find that wpa_supplicant.conf headlessly is totally broken in Stretch (or at least, the previous wpa_supplicant is completely incompatible with previous ones). Why?!!? Stretch now requires the ctrl_interface line, whereas Jessie allowed you to omit it - see ...

Re: PiServer - Client OS installing error using apt

The PC running PiServer needs internet access - at least for first setup.

Try typing that command in the terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get -q -y install dnsmasq openssh-server nfs-kernel-server slapd libnss-ldapd libpam-ldapd ldap-utils gnutls-bin

Oddly that blog announcement doesn't mention what should be the MAIN point :

Zero WH is available without the 1 per customer restriction ?

( the pi hut and modmypi pages now don't mention any restriction for the WH version
and previously modmypi was selling up to 20 qty of Zeroes with header)

Many usb devices will still continue to work at 3.3v

From experience I've used pi zeros with usb wifi dongles running at 3.3v with no problems.
