How to install efficient VNC on Raspbian

I have Raspbian Buster with Desktop installed on a Pi4 and am in the process of setting up a VNC from a Linux laptop. I followed the https://github.com/gitbls/RPiVNCHowTo then made and executed the 'make-systemd-xvnc script' mentioned in the guide. I encountered questions I was unable to answer: 1. ...

Problems getting VNC connection

I have followed the [GUIDE] Raspbian Lite with RPD/LXDE/XFCE/MATE/i3/Openbox/X11 GUI to install a minimal install of Raspbian on the Pi4. I am using the lite version and have only updated the system plus start the on-board VNC server. However, I am unable to connect to it. I have not installed anyth...

Pi4 Unable to connect to vncserver

I am using Ubuntu 19.01 and want to use the Pi headless so followed instructions for 18.04 LTS, assuming they would probably work. https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-install-vnc-server-on-ubuntu-18-04-lts/ Everything followed those instructions correctly to the point: sudo nano ~/.vnc/xstartup Fir...

Do you know how the Pi4 would react if I put that card in it?
Doubt it'll work. They only just added Pi 4 support in 19.10. They have a separate 32 bit image for Pi 2, 3 and 4 together with a 64 bit image for Pi 3 and 4. See https://ubuntu.com/download/iot/raspberry-pi
It did not work.

Re: Is the current Pi 4 useable as 64bit?

I post this in the context of using a desktop (desktop apps) on the Pi 4 Model B specifically but maybe relevant to the other 64bit capable models. IMHO think the 64 bit is somewhat bleeding edge right now but the bugs are being ironed out. Ubuntu 19.10 ARM 64 (server) works, save for a currently r...

Re: Is the current Pi 4 useable as 64bit?

Try and emerge it in Gentoo64 . I don't understand that. I have everything running on a Pi3 now and a lot of water has gone under the bridge since I made this request. I forget a lot of what I first did! I tried the Pi4 and I think I got Mongo working out of the box so to speak but not the bot so g...

Re: Is the current Pi 4 useable as 64bit?

I think I read that 19.10 does not have keyboard or screen? Ubuntu Server doesn't have the desktop packages installed by default but you can add them yourself. It lists the 3 options on the download page. Yes, I have installed xubuntu but I don't think I really need a desktop. In fact it needs me t...

You could try Gentoo64, I have been using it for a year or so on 3B+ and now 4's.
But not sure how friendly Gentoo is to MongoDB etc.
MongoDB is a must as I am not qualified to attach another the zenbot.

Re: Is the current Pi 4 useable as 64bit?

I am new to MongoDB and Zenbot so adding the complexity of working inside a container which may or may not work with what I am installing is to much for me. Ubuntu have an official 64 bit Pi 4 image. I said above that I was able to install MongoDB and zenbot on Ubuntu 18.04 Server LTS on the pi. Ze...

Re: Is the current Pi 4 useable as 64bit?

You don't need that experimental kernel, there will be one preinstalled for you, but you need to enable it yourself in config.txt Then after booting (still 32bit) raspbian with 64bit kernel you can run other distributions inside raspbian via chroot or schroot or systemd-nspawn or any other way. The...

WiFi setup without using Netplan [ubuntu]

I have a fresh install of Ubuntu.04.3 LTS (64 bit ARM) preinstalled server image on a Pi3. In Netplan setup I read that this can be disabled by writing a file in /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg which contains: network: {config: disabled} I am considering this because I spent a f...

I don't think Ubuntu supports RPi4 yet. I have MongoDB 4.2 running on a RPi3 with Ubuntu 18.04LTS Server ARM64. Re: MongoDB on Stretch - E- Unable to locate package mongodb-org

Did you follow the instructions I did? Are there any pitfalls to look out for or any hints? Just one exception: in step 2: "Create a list file for MongoDB" you must replace the architecture definition "arch=amd64" with "arch=arm64". Just to absolutely certain: echo "deb [ arch=amd64 ] https://repo....
