Re: I can´t boot from usb in pi 4

And that's a right proper PITA.

gparted can't resize FAT32 partitions smaller than 256MB. So you have to trash it or convert to ext4 before you can tinker with the disk layout.

That's why I'm leaving my two model 3Bs that boot from WD hard drives till last for the Buster upgrades.

Re: Looking for a case for rb pi 3 + pir motion sensor

That was the words I was looking for "aircraft mode". Powered on but useless. Whatever the power supply state the point of flight safe mode is supposed to be to avoid interference with aircraft systems (there are other views on motivations). So it seems a good starting assumption that the tool for ...

Re: problem with python program

Do you have both python-rpi-gpio and python3-rpi-gpio installed.

It really would be better if you ditched python2 and stuck to python3.

I am not sure you can actually turn the wifi off on a pi.
Isn't that what rfkill does?
rfkill is a software switch. It disables the kernel driver. It has no effect on hardware (which remains powered up but useless).

An upgrade would also need rpi-update as the new bootcode/firmware isn't in Stretch.

Re: Raspi Call Centre idea

It was a bad idea three years ago. It is still a bad idea. Each organisation should run a local or off-shore (if you hate your staff) call centre. The walk-in laptop fixers is the thing that works best (at one of the major clients I do some work for). I had to visit them after a Win10 blue screen fa...

Search Google for "systemd service site:raspberrypi.org/forums" and you'll find hundreds of examples of how to do this stuff with systemd rather than sysvinit.

The pragmatic answer is upgrade to Buster on a new SDCard then move your programs & data over from the retired & unsupportable OS. Dougie. Please read the posts. Re: old sdcard Pi3b+ into Pi4? How?

You don't have the firmware/bootcode needed for the RPi4.

If it's a NOOBS card forget it.

If it's a plain Raspbian card stick it back in the RPi3 and run sudo rpi-update then try again in your RPi4.

Did someone manage to get the SD-Copier to work? No. I've tried it twice and it's very broken. Once from an SDCard to a USB stick. Second time from SDCard to SDCard. I ended up shrinking the partition on the shiny new Buster SDCard to 6.4GB and using dd to copy it to both the USB stick and the SDCa...

Add this to /etc/rc.local (just before the exit 0 line).

Code: Select all

iptables and ip6tables are still there They are now a frontend to nft though. So better use nft directly. but during some tests I noted all rules I write in /etc/iptables.firewall.rules are ignored. If you want any iptables/nft rules loaded on startup you need to write your own startup script for t...

I don't have any meter to test which ring is ground.
You don't need meter.

An LED, a resistor, a power supply and a handful of dupont wires will work for continuity testing.
RPi pin#1 (+VE) and pin#6 (GND/-VE) gives you a power supply (at 3.3V).

I'm simply planning to hack a copy of Raspbian Buster to run with a 64-bit kernel and 32-bit userspace on a 3B+. Just for the mild amusement of doing that.

I'm not planning to buy a RPi4B until a) they're back in stock and b) the RPF/RP(T) folks have shot more of the bugs in the firmware and Buster.
