ifup eth0 ifdown eth0 doesn't work anymore?

In the latest raspbian os, it seems ifup eth0 doesn't work. Nothing happens. ifup wlan0 too. it used to bring up or down the interface. I'm just trying trying to bring up a wlan0 if it goes down. I'm not using GUI on this pi. Or how are you supposed to properly restart a wireless network if it disco...

Re: Two mechanically broken micro sd cards - Raspberry Pi Zero design fault?

Well, take your steel-toe boots off the card. Seriously, its a little fragile. But its a naked circuit board. There's no protection. I hold the card by the edges and insert gently and straight. If you have hands of steel, use just one fingernail. I say this because if you use too much force, your fi...

Outdated webguy, update me

Outdated web developer here. Update me. Was using this old tool => Use this new tool instead apache1 and 2 => ?? php/perl/c for CGI => ?? javascript => same? Linux => same? mysql (now mariadb) => ? Re: apache wont: script to call script and pass params

OK. I'll look into this node.js thing.

I've been out of touch for about 10 years at least.

Wait a minute, drupal uses node.js. That's where I saw it, when updating drupal.

Re: apache wont: script to call script and pass params

What would you use? I have stacks of scripts already working. I wrote them back when I was still alive. But I want to call them from within another script so I dont have to rewrite them. Also, it seems it doesn't matter what script I use, bash, perl, python, NewReallyCoolLangage, etc... My only gues...

Re: apache wont: script to call script and pass params

No one understands me. The script.cgi is already written. But in CGI.pm. And it works fine. But I'm writing another script, just one line of code. It calls the script.cgi. So it would be a one line script that calls the script you just wrote. My only guess is that its an apache security restriction.

Re: apache wont: script to call script and pass params

Again, it could be a different script, it is still the same problem. It could be bash:

page.cgi
#!/bin/sh
echo "content-type: text/html";
echo
echo
echo `/pathToScript/template1.cgi 'title=My Page&key=value, etc...' ` ;

apache wont: script to call script and pass params

I have a script that's already running, we'll call it template1.cgi. It takes parameters such as title, etc...in the form template1.cgi?title=My page&name=pair&etc... That's fine. Now I writing another script. And it doesn't matter what language. But for this example: page.cgi #!/usr/bin/perl print ...

Re: toxic new board smell ?

What smell? I don't ever recall any of my boards smelling bad. Perhaps a tiny chemical smell. But you'll live.
Could be the epoxy. But I believe there's no lead.
Unless there's something wrong with yours. Maybe yours got contaminated.

Re: Is the Raspberry Pi a good ePaper platform?

If you want to save energy, use the raspberry pi zero.

But if you want to save even more energy, use a micro controller.

But the raspberry pi is a live system that you can remote to by SSH, web, or VNC or RDP. And all the new pis have built-in wifi.

Re: Rotate background

Since--obviously--you have to be running the GUI to see the image...right click on an otherwise empty part of the screen, select "Desktop Preferences", on the window that comes up, the "Picture" entry is where the selected image is specified. If you click on the "folder" icon, a window will come up...

cool that will work. right in my face and I didnt see it.

mine says
wallpaper=.... points to a photo I placed.

so I guess I can either write a script to update that file or like you said, just symlink it.

Rotate background

raspbian boots up with a picture of a road as background.
You can manually change that.
Is there a way to automatically change that?
What file is updated when that picture is changed?

I guess if anyone knows of an app or if you can just write a script.

I'm surprised no mention of a sPInner.

A zero could work. Those old zeros you have laying around.

Actually, you can use many types of operating systems.
Besides the download page in this website, there's other ones.
There's arm versions of many distros anywhere from debian, arch, to slackware, to redhat/fedora. See distrowatch.
