But if that is the case, why did the designers of RPi remove the polyfuse in Model B? I thought that was an admission of design mistake.

Is it safe to buy stuff with no FCC/CE certification?

It is possible to buy cheap stuff from China with no FCC/CE certification. Is it unsafe to do so? I guess for wireless products like smartphones, it can be dangerous because the radiation can be very high. But how about non-wireless stuff?

Anyone has experience to share?

Maximum current drawn from USB (Model B)

Model B has no polyfuse that limits current that can be drawn from USB port to 140mA. So, what is the new maximum current that can be drawn from the USB port of RPi Model B?

Thank you.

Why does Model A consume much lesser power than Model B?

I read that RPi Model A consumes as little as 1/3 the power of Model B. To my knowledge, Model B uses 512MByte RAM while Model A uses 256MByte RAM. How could RAM account for so much power difference? What are the main factors that cause the much higher power efficiency of Model A?

Thank you.

I would like to turn my RPi into an Access Point. The proper OS for Access Point is OpenWRT. But support for OpenWRT on RPi does not look mature at this moment. How about AP support on Raspbian? Has anyone tried successfully to turn Raspbian into an AP? I bought a WPi dongle. Has anyone used this Wi...

Do you encourage your children to take on engineering?

This has become a lunch-time topic among my engineering colleagues. One of them sadly mentioned that his son told him that he is very smart and passionate about his work but not rich at all. The son compared his father to a schoolmate's father who work in Wall-Street kind of job with the cars they d...

Re: Program Gertboard from PC instead of RPi

The only component on the Gertboard which is programmable is the Atmega chip. No, you can't program that from the PC in a normal way as the PC has no SPI port. Theoretical you could do it if you had an old-fashioned parallel port and bit-bang that. But you rarely see PC with that nowadays. Also tha...

As a rule of thumb, swap space is twice that of RAM. Default swap space in Raspbian is 99M. Isn't this far too small? May I ask the more experienced here what is the reason for choosing 99M? Thank you.
