Re: Gertboard Software in Python - Released

This is amazingly good work. I wrote most of the user manual for the Gertboard. Gert has asked me to update it for the new already-assembled Gertboard that will go on sale in the new year. I would like to put in a pointer to the Python code because I think Python will be more accessible to people wh...

Re: Raspbian: dies after config

Paul: nope, even that didn't do it. Shame... Well, I can always just rewrite those SD cards that didn't work.

Re: Raspbian: dies after config

Paul: Hmmm, interesting observation. My SD cards are Transcend as well, but they are a more modest 4GB class 6. Which file is the "boot partition" that I should copy over? Sorry, despite being a RasPi user for a few months, I'm still no systems expert.

Re: Raspbian: dies after config

Hmmm, I have finally got a working Raspbian SD image. Third time lucky. This time I just did a couple of things in the configuration setup, and then exited, and didn't reboot straight away. But it would be interesting to track down what went wrong in case someone else has this problem. Jim: yes, I c...

Raspbian: dies after config

I've been using a Raspberry Pi since March, first with Debian squeeze, then Debian wheezy, and now I've downloaded the Wheezy raspbian to try out. The problem, briefly, is that after I go through the configuration menu and try to restart it, it doesn't restart. In detail: I downloaded the Raspbian i...

Re: WeDo + Scratch working!

Hmmm, I think my announcement was a bit premature. This udev rule works with the Scratch on the new wheezy distribution, but not on squeeze. At least it doesn't work on the version of squeeze that I've got!

WeDo + Scratch working!

I now have the WeDo crocodile happily chomping on my finger, powered by my Pi, thanks to some help from Alex Bradbury. In order to make this happen you need to add a udev rule which makes the WeDo USB hub readable and writable by the pi user. Go to directory /lib/udev/rules.d make a file called "40-...

Re: su password and bits and bobs

<t>The slowness you are seeing is mainly the result of the X windowing system running in software. This is why the little processor load rectangle turns solid green whenever you do anything related to windows. We have developers working on offloading this to the hardware, remember that the processor...

Re: Indonesia computers for schools

<t>nmcc is 100% correct with regards to the aim of the Raspberry Pi computer. The main motivator was and is to get children in the UK programming again. All households will have a TV that you can plug an RPi into, and the many will also have a USB phone charger. Many households have laptops as their...

Re: Complete beginner to programming, should i buy a RPi?

<t>As the education coordinator for the Raspberry Pi Foundation, I concur that you should not buy one now. Wait until we have more of them available, and the educational release is out. The educational release will include a preloaded SD card with a collection of programming languages/environments, ...

Re: Debian squeeze

<r>Hello, first, Joe Schmoe is right, there is no point downloading any SD images now. You should wait until you get your RasPi. A good reason to wait is that things are slowly getting fixed/made better. Right now one of the problems that we have is that the X Windowing graphics are done in software...

Re: MagPi – Raspberry Pi Magazine

<t>Hi Guys... I'm education coordinator for the Foundation and (at the moment) the only employee. The MagPi is a great idea! My main suggestion so far would be to remember that the Raspberry Pi computer isn't just about Python. We will be supporting lots of languages, but emphasising Scratch, Python...
