Re: Photovoltaic/solar systems monitoring

Some update. I changed this: rr = client.read_holding_registers(0,30,1) In to this: rr = client.read_holding_registers(0,30,unit=1) As per this: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/pymodbus/wCkqo5ImgOw/BsfYgOGjmlAJ Where it is stated: Right, So in the latest version I added a breaking change where...

Re: Photovoltaic/solar systems monitoring

Well, I found this page: http://www.fieldlines.com/index.php/topic,147639.0.html The OP of that topic is successfully monitoring Morningstar Tristar by using PyModbus and Python. And I believe my MPP Solar PCM-6048 just might be compatible. Here is the pymodbus: https://github.com/bashwork/pymodbus ...

Re: PiHAT - Rasberry Pi Home Automation Transmitter

Does anyone know how to use Pihat with external transmitter? I cannot use the pin 4.. Actually I believe you can still use GPIO 4 the Pihat program simply turns the RF modulation on or off (OOK) which to a TX board would appear as data on or data off. Mixing 2 transmitters with similar frequencies ...

Re: 1-wire problem (can't see sensors if all connected)

It works now! I just changed the cable and that fixed it. I did not even change the GND to RT-line. Edit: To those who have the same problem, do NOT use MMJ cable. MMJ has probably wrong capacitance or something like it and timings will get fu**ed up (or something like it). Cat5 cable works fine for...

Re: PiFace

Hmm. It looks like the Piface does not work with ComPi 1-wire+rs232-add on board. Any advice? I tried changing JP1 to On setting. I am trying to use the relays by: /root/wiringPi/gpio/gpio -p write 201 1 ..and so on.. Should I use something different? It works fine with different Rpi and different s...

Re: 1-wire problem (can't see sensors if all connected)

Excellent, thank you! Though, I will have one short "branch" to measure the temperature in Sauna. If it does not work, I will try to make the whole thing a chain/linear. Or then I will just skip the sauna. If all this works, I will and try at least to add some more sensors. However, for ex...

Re: 1-wire problem (can't see sensors if all connected)

I am now looking for cheap replacement for this cable. Suggestions? For long 1-wire buses (tens of metres) I've used cat5, cat6, and alarm cable - 6core each 7x0.2mm strands. All are just in domestic environment - nowhere electrically noisy. All have worked. Whether any count as cheap, I don't know...

Thank you all for advice. And I am now also coming to conclusion that it is indeed my wiring. The thick cab...

Re: 1-wire problem (can't see sensors if all connected)

I think we need to know how the adapter is configured to say much. If it's just a passive connection of a GPIO to the one-wire bus with a pull-up resistor, then it will probably be less good with long buses than if it's a dedicated driver chip (such as a DS2482-100). If it runs teh 1-wire bus at 5V...

Re: 1-wire problem (can't see sensors if all connected)

Hi, When building a 11 sensor network for a room by room heating system, we had to reduce the pull up resistance after adding 4 or 5 sensors. It's a few years back but I think we started out with a 5k resistor and ended up with something like 1.5kOhm. PS! Our system run on an Arduino who's resource...

1-wire problem (can't see sensors if all connected)

I have trouble if I connect the long cable which connects two temperature sensors in other building/cabin to the 1-wire adapter. If I connect the long cable, all sensors disappear from the network. Re: RPi to turn on and off wall socket.

I managed to contro sockets remotely by simply soldering wires to two switches on the remote control and then wiring them to Piface's two relays. Works nicely. However, it is only two relays, which means controlling only one socket. ..I did order few boards with 8 relays. But now I have started thin...

Re: Piface stopped working

To answer myself and maybe help someone else: My Piface appears to work again. I believe the reason why the relays did not say anything was that I had done bad wiring to the remote controller which I am controlling with the relays. So, if it does not work, check your wiring :) It remains to be seen,...

Re: RTC with DS1338 and pass through 26pins

Thanks Ivan. I ordered it now.

I have noticed too, that there will be quite a stack of stuff on the Rpi when you simply add cards you wish. My Rpi stack will be quite high, as I need to add 8 relay board in addition to all these. But I already use a gertboard's cable to connect to Piface.

RTC with DS1338 and pass through 26pins

It looks like my Rpi in the middle of woods needs RTC. I have some scheduled scripts and loosing time does no good :) The Internet connection tends to be unstable, so just NTP is not the solution here. Re: Photovoltaic/solar systems monitoring

Well, regarding reading the PCM-6048 solar charge regulator, I have the protocol specs: https://www.dropbox.com/s/funk3gpyf36qkv0/PCM%2040%2060_Protocol_Charger.pdf However, I am not skilled enough to make a software or other means to read it. I have now RS232 and cable between the PCM-6048 and Rpi....

I made my third Raspberry Pi a Raspbmc machine. It is great, but I cannot get full 5.1 sound through my TV. My AV receiver is old Pioneer that does not have HDMI connections, but it has optical and RCA connections. I have connected the Rpi via HDMI to Samsung 50" Plasma TV and from the TV I hav...

Piface stopped working

Well, it looks like my Piface has stopped working. Last night I might have connected the piface to rpi in a wrong way. As I have 1-wire+RS232 add-on board, I connect the Piface by means of ribbon cable (meant for Gertboard). It used to work fine with the cable with different Rpi. But last night I th...

Ah, it is good I found this thread. I already ordered one of those cheap 8 relay boards :) Can you throw me an example piece of script or python on how to turn on/off those relays? I have only used relays of the piface board so far. I guess I can use the 8 relay board with piface too, but I have sev...

Also, I managed to use the relays on the Piface, they are ea...

Read solar charger through RS232 (MPP solar PCM-6048)

Hello, I have a solar charger, MPP Solar model PCM-6048, which has RS232 interface. The 1-wire works good an...

Well, I need to see the exact voltage, as it is used to calculate the state of charge. And to be honest, what boyoh explained, sounds good, but I would need exact schematics and step-by-step instructions. I would be interested on hearing how exactly did karlos13 do this? I would like to receive a li...
