Re: Raspberry Compute Module & Jetson Nano SO-DIMM pins

Thanks for replying James, if you manage to mention this to a colleague that is working on the compute module 4 I would be eternally grateful! ;)

No. The CM, CM3, CM3+, ... are something like breakout boards. To a large degree the SO-DIMM pins reflect the BCM xxxx pins (mostly a 1:1 relation)
Ah, ok... that's sad... but can't we get them to agree on the subset of power/HDMI/input pins?

Raspberry Compute Module & Jetson Nano SO-DIMM pins

Can we get the foundation to cooperate with Nvidia so they are interchangeable?!

Re: Skin Mesh Animation

Aha, interesting mesa could have some switch to automatically offload stuff to the CPU... maybe in a separate thread even! But again complexity hurts you even if it is abstracted. Here is a talk that shows what happens when you try to multithread graphics: https://www.gdcvault.com/play/1022186/Paral...

Re: Skin Mesh Animation

I'm aware of moving GPU stuff to the CPU for devices that are bottlenecked by the GPU. But: 1) Complexity, not good and specifically when GPUs will automatically become better relative to CPUs over the next 10 years. See Jetson Nano. 2) You would need multithreaded GPU access or your frames will get...

Re: Skin Mesh Animation

Ok, yes I'm a bit harsh... but really if you take pride in your work it would not be hard to extrapolate that the best feature of OpenGL 3 released in 2008 (VAO) would have to be ported to OpenGL ES at some point. So the broadcom engineers had 4 years to prevent the VC4 being stuck in the past by pr...

Re: Skin Mesh Animation

That is not unjustified, its not "an insulting and critical attack", I mailed the same thing to Anholt. But I just googled release dates and OpenGL ES 3.0 was released the same year as the Pi 1 so it makes sense... but still read the whole thread. What one could say about all of this is the VC4 was ...

Re: Skin Mesh Animation

I'm not "slagging" if off because it's not "fast enough for modern games". Maybe you should read the whole thread before commenting? I said it's broken because it can't handle shader based skin mesh animation, that is a fact! Quake uses new vertex data for every animation frame, that's easy and not ...

Re: How can I overclock Raspberry PI 4 GPU/core/video core to more then 600MHz?

I can't get any of this to work, my GPU is at 500MHz no matter what I try.

Can someone post a from fresh install 100% working tutorial?

Re: Skin Mesh Animation

This is sinking in now. The pi 4 is the first cheap ES 3 powered "open" ARM device. The compute module is going to be huge, I predict it will be the most used console by the end of this decade! We're going into a productive stagflation era again like the 70s when the home computer and the internet w...

Re: hardware counters raspberry 4

Yes, I guess so. uname -r gives 4.19.50-v70+ So the available linux-perf-4.18 does not cut it? All I know is I get <not supported> on all hardware counters! I'm thoroughly impressed by how hard it is to get hardware profiling to work on modern hardware... I tried Intel tools (certificate problems an...

Well it doesn't really matter if there is no microphone you still need another plug.

The foundation really dropped the ball on this one. Composite is not more valuable than microphone.

Re: Skin Mesh Animation

Switching to the Pi 4.

The VC4 is not a proper GPU; it's just a toy, you can't make anything real with it.

The VC6 is closer to modern Android devices; still weak, but powerful enough for a MMO!

Re: Analogue audio redux

Hi, so I'm very close to starting to use my Pi 4 as desktop, but the static in the headphone jack is a nono. Any plans of fixing this now around 10 years later? I mean you can't make an ad stating the latest Pi makes it a desktop and then expect people to listen to static / remove headphones every t...

Aha! I'll try on the Pi4 after they release next patch then! Right now the VC6 drivers are a complete mess. Ok, I tried that too but still fails. For reference someone found the line in Anholts source that pukes on my shaders: https://github.com/anholt/mesa/blob/master/src/gallium/drivers/vc4/vc4_register_allocate.c#L443 Another proposed changing the index array to short from int, now atleast I know that ...

Skin Mesh Animation

I'm trying to get my 3D engine to work on GLES. There is something wrong with the shaders and the program spits out a bunch of assembly at me but I'm not versed enough to understand what it means: Fragment #version 100 precision lowp float; varying vec2 outTexCoord; varying vec3 out_Normal; uniform ...
