Re: NetBoot RPI 3 without rpi server

Basically: YES
But configuration depends on, what you use on your UBUNTU-server. (dnsmasq or isc-dhcp, tftp-hpa and so on)

Raspberry Pi 3 network-booting is a little bit "special" and not so easy and/or "fully functional" as one may expect ... :( With a "normal" PXE-Client I can see (in my setup): Mar 1 11:21:44 dnsmasq-dhcp[68]: DHCPDISCOVER(eth0) 08:00:27:xx:xx:xx Mar 1 11:21:44 dnsmasq-dhcp[68]: DHCPOFFER(eth0) 192.1...

Re: Moving Mysql Database to a NAS does not work

You cannot sit on machine 1 (RPI) and change the permissions of any share on machine 2 (NAS) by using the chmod command on machine 1 ! Think twice, what would happen all around the world if this would be possible ... machine 2 defines by itself with his settings (in NFS, SAMBA or what ever) what's a...

Clean shutdown should be done automatically; especially in a car where you have a heavy battery!

Re: How to add an XFS partition to my Pi SD?

? is there a trick to prevent that ? Not tested, but removing this init=/usr/lib/raspi-config/init_resize.sh from 'config.txt' before the first boot should avoid resizing? As it is on the FAT-partition it could be done from every windows-machine! Empty (unpartitioned) space should remain, where als...

Re: Executing Script after first start

What I suggest is that you study how raspbian does a resize on the first boot. With a bit of effort you should be able to use the same method to do your configuration changes. The 'cmdline.txt' of a fresh raspbian-image contains init=/usr/lib/raspi-config/init_resize.sh This script itself removes t...

Re: Raspbian App to create a Bootable USB thumbdrive?

Test with dd if=/path/and/name.iso bs=2048 count=1 | hexdump -C Case one, content show's only zeros: no hybrid-iso. Case two, it shows lots of different numbers: relatively safe, that it is a hybrid one. Background: a normal bootable iso-file contains only zeros in its first sectors. Greetings, FM_81

Re: Turn on an LED when connected to wifi

May be, you can change this

Code: Select all

echo "18" > /sys/class/gpio/export
to this

Code: Select all

[ -L /sys/class/gpio/gpio18 ] || echo "18" > /sys/class/gpio/export
and you will get no error on second (or third ...) execution.

Re: SD card power capacitor.. silly idea or ?

You could also split the Ext4 part into two partitions, one for Linux and one for your data. There are posts on changing the Linux partition to read only. It will not help very much. As long, as you write to the card, it will do wear-leveling. Wear-leveling runs on cell-level, so it doesn't care ab...
