I presume that a USB powered hub could be deployed with one of the outputs supplying the RPi via a short USB cable.

There is nothing (I believe) connected to the data pins, so you don't end up with an RPi trying to control itself...

But in that case you can write an SD card with ssh enabled, it's not something which should be present on the default distro (although there is no reason not to have it as an alternative image for download)

Ho Hum, it's more difficult than I thought then.  I assumed that the smd would all be put in place together, but wasn't sure the connectors could be treated the same way.
