Re: Mount Network Storage

The error says the Pi doesn't find BoBLite. I would - check capitalization and spelling - try to ping it, assuming it answers to pings - replace the name with its IP adress - make sure it's actually sharing BoBLite/ not BoBLite/share/ or some such - check the Pi and BoBLite are on the same subnet (x...

Re: Production suddenly increased?

Both have their own production facilities, schedules, logistics to make and deliver the products, and... marketing departments to dream up delivery dates ^^ The onlu involvement of the foundation was to supply the design, and get the SoCs from Broadcom. It's no surprise both manufacturers/resellers ...

RS and Farnell are the only ones at the moment, plus ebay for resellers and scammers ^^

Now that bulk orders are possible, nothing prevents resellers from stocking up, though they probably won't get much, if any, discount.

Re: Starting Arch Linux

Arch by default only has the command line. You can of course install several GUIs. They have an excellent wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/ but honestly, if you're lost already, you might want to start with debian/raspbian/puppy and get your sea legs with those before moving on to arch which does a ...

Re: Just a thought: Increase in Memory

@OP: I'm amazed at how people misunderstand readyboost. Flash memory is good a small random reads, HD are good at large sequential reads/writes. So ready boost takes the small files involved in booting/launching apps from the HD, copies them to flash, and you get the best of both worlds. That's it: ...

Re: I have no idea what I'm doing

You have nothing special to do on the Linux side. Just configure Internet Connexion Sharing in Windows, and run a crossed ethernet cable from the Pi to your Windows box (unless your ethernet port has autosensing, in which case a regular, straight, ethernet cable will work). If you're using wifi, you...

Yes, certainly. I have no clue how to do it though. Alternatively, you could also be nice to your little brother  Show him what's in your room and explain to him why he shouldn't mess with it, and how HE would feel if you got into his room and made a mess. Technology is rarely a solution to soc...

Assuming 1- the pictures on your SD card are all in the same directory 2- have unique names, even if you delete your SD (ie, they're not all named pic00001, pic00002... on each and every new SD you put in) 3- are numerous and biggish, so you want to avoid re-copying already copied ones I would 1- se...

ext4 because it is the default, native, hence faster, and very reliable.
Samba takes care of making the files on the ext4 partition available to windows machines that don't handle ext4.

Re: Internet via ethernet into Windows 7 laptop

Do you mean you are literally connecting the Pi to a laptop with an ethernet cable? Yes, that works; I've done it before and I have a couple of cables set aside just for that. Windows can act as a bridge to the Internet for the Pi, and with the "other" type of ethernet cable (I never remember which...

Apart from a distrust of Bittorent, I get miserable download rates with Bittorent in comparison to a normal HTML download. That's entirely dependent on how much the HTML site is willing to pay for bandwidth, vs how selfish torrenters are (do they seed ?) and how miserly your ISP is (do they throttl...
