Re: Optimizing Linux for Flash memory.

<t>The Pi will run mainly off flash memory, which works very differently than mechanical hard drives. Linux, by default, is tweaked for hard drives, which has a negative impact on the performance and longevity of flash-based Linux installs. Luckily, Linux is very flexible and we can re-configure it ...

Re: are you spoiling it?

<t>It\'s only 2 months, and we now have the tools to pretend we already have a Pi in our PCs. I want to use one of mine as a NAS/Torrent/FTP/Web server, So I\'m gathering docs (no small endeavour for Linux ^^) and trying out stuff in a VM. All software projects, even most OS ones, though neither the...

link 8 works, then you put pseudo tags before and after: (img)...link8...(/img), except with [ and ] instead of ( and ), and no replace ...link8... with the actual link8. You can edit your post to see the source code of my modifications to your posts.

Re: Release date???

<t>My clue that they\'re very serious about this is how stingy they are ^^ They keep saying \"no\" to requests, whereas bullshitters would take pre-orders, accept requests if not actually promise the moon, and not have a track record in the industry. And actually make money off the thing, instead of...

Re: Lets port Elite to the Raspberry PI

Yes, but it would be a waste because ZX Spectrum was sooo much better ^^

Can we have the old flame wars back ? In France it was more Oric vs Spectrum, but I can adapt !

More seriously, all 3 sound like worthy projects.

Re: Google TV or Android OS

<t>Except the raspi is 256 megs. Since the OS takes a fixed amount a RAM, that means very little is left for apps, and we can't install the latest revisions of the OS. I had plenty of apps crashes on my older Android phone, with an older version of Android and only 256 megs. Everything are much bett...

I remember reading somewhere (I thought it was in this forum actually) that microSD to SD converters create issues, and that using straight full SD s much better.

Funny how I see 3 times more Gnome downloads than lxde. Either I'm missing something and Gnome provides something more than eye candy, or people are incredibly set in their way.

I'm guessing they don't want to spam the mailing list, but a quick weekly recap of Pi news, and reassurances that everything is on track, may be nice... if only to ascertain the mailing lit actually works ^^

Not a news article per se, but right now on most nerd sites in France, every time there is an article about such-and-such cheap/hacker device, there's a comment (and not by me ^^) about Pi coming soon...

<t>Yep, but for some uses, more is not better. Many industrial users do not care that much about performance as long as it stays within specs, and may use specific secondary features that may be taken away (say, the next pi may be USB-powered, or have fewer GPIO pins, or have less forgiving operatin...
