Re: Competition from the Vic-20

<t>That\'s good news. May even be good for some computer learning, as long as you want Basic.<br/> Personally, I\'d rather take a Pi, with a modern OS and interfaces, pretty much any programming language, the ability to actually do useful stuff (server, Office, Inernet)...<br/> But vintage machines ...

<t>I'm extremely young: I was at the party my univ's IT team had when they discarded their last paper-tape reader. Free Streamers ! ( a bit monochromatic though). You should read the wiki.
I2S is there, S/PDIF isn't.

Re: Does the boot partition have to be the first one ?

<t>That's all well and good, but unless we assume every Pi will be connected to a HD, or that a 128 MB RAM device doesn't need swap, we don't have much choice.<br/> <br/> Back to the question: does the Broadcom boot process require the boot files in the first SD partition, or can that be swap, and t...

Re: How would you use a Raspberry Pi device?

<t>@nobbit: actually, your way is much better than RAID: it does not depend on fragile hardware or software RAID, it gives you a bit of time to realize you've deleted an important file or gotten a virus before both drives get affected, and it gives you the option the hide a drive elsewhere in case o...

lxde one has finished seeding. Maybe you can stop seeding it to help the gnome one catch up, while we seed lxde ?

Re: Does the boot partition have to be the first one ?

Still working on the "Optimizing for SSD" topic.
Since the swap partition is fixed size, it would make sense to put it first and use the rest for OS+Data.
Is there anything in the boot process that prevents that ?

There's one in the armel stuff in my sig; there may be others available for our variants of Linux and ARM. A search for "forth" in the forum yields... nothing, so there doesn't seem to be much community activity/interest for the moment.
