Re: best basic USB hub for the Pi?

FWIW: I've been investigating a number of "low-cost" hubs that can be powered but may not be supplied with a PSU, mainly because some supplied PSU's are of poor quality (this, as also noted in the wiki, seems to be often the case for generic 7-port hubs). The details can be found at http://www.cpmsp...

Re: Some feedback for a revision 3 board

I would love a metal SD card holder! I mainly created this thread to see what people's thoughts were on a new revision of a Pi, and it's sparked some interesting conversation. I would agree. A higher quality SD card holder would be great. I have a number of SD cards which are now unusable as they h...

Re: SD adapter for using two sd cards?

NOOBS does do RISCOS does it not? http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/4100 Yes, but AFAIK if you switch the operating system all data from the previous one is deleted. So e.g. if you switch between RISC OS and XBCM you will loose all installed plug-ins etc. Or do I see that wrong? That may be the c...

Re: Unstable internet connection

Hi Pierre, Given that my Pi's get their IP addresses (statically) assigned by dhcp from my router I may be wrong (if so, someone will correct me, no doubt) but comparing one of my /etc/network/interfaces files (automatically generated for me) with yours I can see an extra line: "auto eth0" which is ...

Re: New RaspberryPi has stopped working

Whilst several possibilities come to mind, to help "rule out" common issues could you post info. w.r.t. your PSU (eg. was it rated 5V 1000mA or better) SD card and O.S. Also did you write the O.S. image yourself (how?) or was it "pre-installed". What peripherals, if any, have you "plugged in" etc. A...

Update: I've now found a more reliable (so far), USB 2.0 compliant USB - LAN dongle, based upon a different chipset and driver - see this thread (http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 28&t=45718) for more info. (I'll be updating my own webpages later this week).

Have you confirmed that the "nano edit" did result in a changed file (eg. via "more /etc/network/interfaces" {you may need the "sudo" prefix too})? More detail about your router(s) (make, model), if known, may be helpful too - someone here may know how to activate your new router's dhcp server (if i...

Re: sudo nano not saving config.txt

Whilst you should be able to use "sudo nano" to edit config.txt (you have to write out the file before eXiting, otherwise, IIRC, it may get saved to a temporary copy eg. config.tmp or similar) the better approach is to use "raspi-config" (assuming your O.S. is "Wheezy Raspbian". NB. an new image was...

Duncan, Before committing to a purchase of one of the more complex (pre-built) expansion boards with most of the "bells and whistles" your project needs, it might be more worthwhile to "have a go" with something "cheap & cheerful" such as the "Slice of PI/O" board. For me, >15 years since I'd last d...

Yes, the DM9601 devices do cause an oops when under any significant loading. I have a couple of them for my model A's. Re: Kernel BUG (Oops) issue with USB LAN dongles (DM9601 dri

Update: Some more info. (that may hold a clue?) Fairly confident that I've ruled out power issues - usb-devices output suggested that the problem device(s) should require less current (120mA cf. 144mA). Checks on the Pi's supply voltage confirm this: 4.9V cf. 4.8V (problem cf. working) - measured du...
