Re: Raspberry Pi as Writing Only Machine

but I dunno if anyone's made a "kiosk mode" word processor... ? I know of a couple, though not all are open-source (I heard of these before ever even having heard of a "kiosk mode" web-browser, funnily enough  ). Whilst trying to find one of the ones I recalled, I found this article , which me...

Or has an agenda, perhaps?

The poor article comes off as very deliberately misleading, to me.

Re: NOOBS did not expand filesystem; Can I fix it?

So am I, and I learned a handy lesson, too: Always read the label. I've now located the card that I thought it was (though I still don't know why it wasn't in the adapter like I thought I'd left it; Ah well), and I'll just start over on that, since I imagine it'd be a bit of a pain to flash it...

Re: NOOBS did not expand filesystem; Can I fix it?

Aw, god, I feel like a right idiot now... I did all the checking requested, and then finally took the card (it's a microSD - forgot to mention that) out of its adapter, to find that it's not the 8GB card I thought it was. I'm so sorry about this - I must've mixed up my cards and flashed a spar...

Re: MAME isnt detecting rom files

Don't worry to much about 'parent' ROMS it shouldn't affect smaller files like Pac-Man/Dig-Dug. Actually, it does - that's why I specifically used Pac-Man as an example to explain it. I've come across it more times with smaller, older games, than anything else. It's how MAME does things - as ...

NOOBS did not expand filesystem; Can I fix it?

This is an odd one, and hard to search for info on. My apologies if I have this in the wrong section - I wasn't 100% sure where it should go. Anyway... I installed Raspbian via the most excellent NOOBS a couple of days ago. The card I installed it to is a genuine Kingston 8GB one, Class 4. The capac...

Re: MAME isnt detecting rom files

Unlike console emulation, where the game dumps are very often single self-contained files, sometimes all of the files required to run a game in any given version of MAME are spread across the different ROM-sets for that game. For example, you can't run any version or hack of Pac-Man without also hav...

Re: boot animation!!!

Ok, I'm back. I've had a good old go at it, but I can't get the instructions to work for me at all, and I don't know enough (or anything, really!) about scripting to be able to figure out what or where the problem is. It doesn't prevent booting, at least - it just gives a message that the script fai...

I've not ventured into media centre territory or suchlike, so it has to be Raspbian for me, with RISC OS as a close second.

If I could get hold of the Tip of the Day list from the homepage, I'd compile that into a fortune file. Maybe a list of amusing (computing-related, to give it a focus) one-liners from the forum, too.

Setting up fortune and Adding Custom Fortune Files: A Guide

I found myself missing the command line application, "fortune", on my Raspberry Pi, running Raspbian. Not only that, I wanted to add fortunes of my own to it, too, so I learned how, and decided to write a guide as I went about setting it up - and now I'm sharing that guide here. Some screenshots are...

Very, very impressed with NOOBS

I know that people are generally more inclined to post about things if they're having problems, or are unhappy with things, or whatever, but I've just decided to start fresh with my Raspbian installation, and opted to use NOOBS instead of the dd method, this time. NOOBS wasn't around the last time I...
