Re: PiMAME, 256MB Model B - DGen giving black screen

I'll look into this. Thanks very, very much - it's much-appreciated. :) You can also post a message on the pimame forums as well. I'm afraid I don't especially want to register another account elsewhere. I hope that's not a problem! :? Make sure the files dgen is opening aren't zipped. They definit...

Re: Default User Groups

I'm afraid I only know the answer to adding a new user to the same groups as another one, which I achieved via the guide in this thread. I'm posting the link in case it helps to get you any further, as I don't know what the groups are off of the top of my head.

Re: C64 Emulation

What feedback did it give? EDIT: Oops, never mind - I've had a moment to take a look on my RPi, now... I installed libsvga1-dev in order to get it to configure, but it refused to build even with it present (and libsdl-dev is present as well), and I don't know enough to know what's wrong or how to ge...

Re: Available help for Raspberry Pi

Second problem is that printers can be damned difficult to get working. Inkjet printers certainly are, that's for sure, but that seems to apply to all OSes in my experience... I've never experienced any issues with lasers on Linux, though (perhaps because they aren't afflicted by the seemingly inkj...

Re: What age is too young for a Pi

I definitely agree with the notion of letting kids be kids, but it's obvious from the very fact that you're here asking sensible questions about it that you already know that. ;) So, I just wanted to share my thoughts, if that's alright! I was given my first computer more than two decades ago, as a ...

I've mainly been playing some SNES titles. Specifically, Another World, Donkey Kong Country 2 - Diddy's Kong Quest, and Kirby's Ghost Trap.

I've also been trying to de-rust at the arcade version of Ms. Pac-Man, courtesy of one of Namco's retro compilations...

I just downloaded the source to my main Linux box to take a quick look, and it seems to be a simple matter of extracting the source, navigating to the source code directory, and then running "./configure" followed by "make".

Re: C64 Emulation

Just throwing an idea out, here, as I haven't tried it myself, but would Frodo suit? It's an older (but unfortunately less accurate) C64 emulator that I seem to recall used to be the first port of call on lower-powered machines and on ARM-based handheld systems (for example, it was ported to the GP3...

That's odd. When I click it, it sends me to the "Technical, help and resource documents" page, as it should.

Have you tried restarting your browser, clearing your browser cache, and all of that other stuff that tends to be suggested as a the first port of call for random oddness like this?

Re: Why are lithium batteries prone to explosion?

In addition to the above, some instances of lithium-ion batteries exploding have been due to mismanufacture. In the most famous spate of cases, circa 2006/2007, batteries manufactured by Sony had small shards of metal inside of them, which could pierce the separators, thus causing a short-circuit - ...

Re: PiMAME, 256MB Model B - DGen giving black screen

Oops, sorry! I knew I forgot to mention something. I'm using HDMI output, not composite. As for RetroArch, I have tried it (via RetroPie), but I didn't get on very well with it - that's why I went with PiMAME for the RPi concerned, in the end. (It's not a big problem if I can't get this issue fixed ...

PiMAME, 256MB Model B - DGen giving black screen

I'm having a problem with DGen on the current PiMAME image (at the time of writing, this is 0.7.9) on my 256MB Model B Raspberry Pi. Everything else works fine, but after I choose a game to play in DGen, it drops to a black screen and never does anything else (there's no sound or anything, either, a...

Re: maplins 3d printer ready for pre-order

It's a bit pricey for me at the moment, but I must admit that it's a lot better than I had expected the first relatively "affordable" home 3D printers to be when, a few years ago, I mulled over the fact that we would get to this point within a few years. I'm quite impressed. That said, I'll be waiti...

In all seriousness, though, now I'm done with my quipping about modern OSes, I can see the use in these x86-based boards. They're just not any uses that I have myself. I'll be interested to see what applications people put them to, though.

Standards and expectations have gone up. As has OS overhead since then. And speed seems to have gone right down, leaving some modern OSes only as productive, or in many cases less so, than their decades-old counterparts. Or perhaps that's just my experience? I think I'm with Jim on this. Or s...

Re: RetroArch on Raspbian: the tutorial

You don't have it installed, it sounds like. Try running the following;

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install git-core
Once that's done, I believe that part of Vanfanel's instructions should work fine. :)

Re: Dimentions

As far as I know, the dimensions are the same. The difference is (and I know that some cases use this feature) that there are holes in the board for the 512MB model. So, I don't know if this applies to all available Raspberry Pi cases (as I've only used one kind), but I know for sure that ModMyPi's ...

Re: Getting my RPi tomorrow, question about SNES project.

2) Is there any way to improve sound quality? The setting is at 48000hz, and it still sounds pretty bad. A real SNES actually uses 32k, so setting it to that will help it a bit. Of course, I suspect the main problem you're referring to is the distortion on some sound-effects and notes, in which cas...

Re: Sssssmokin'! (256MB Model B issue)

If you hook up Lapdock to a RasPi USB A port, Lapdock will try to power RasPi unless you cut the 5V line in the USB cable. USB fuses F1 and F2 limit current, but they won't stop it. Ah! I didn't know that! Thanks. I'm a software-inclined type, and my knowledge of electronics is not brilliant....

Sssssmokin'! (256MB Model B issue)

Today, I took delivery of some accessories (a USB WiFi dongle and a ModMyPi case) for a first-batch Raspberry Pi that's been sitting here for well over a year, waiting for a project. This RPi has never been booted up before now (I'd pre-prepared its SD Card in my main RPi, before the accessories arr...

Well, its quite simple really. You are thinking too big, all of you. When you start up your Pi, what do you get in hte top-left corner? The RPi logo. Make it a big bigger, and remove the text being printed, and there you are. Splash. XBMC has something like this. Would you write up instructions for...
