Re: Guzunty Pi. New users start here.

I have added two new functions to the 'C' library API: int gz_spi_get(int bit_to_read); // Read the state of the specified input bit int gz_output_get(int bit_to_read); // Read the state of the cached output bit All previous API is unaffected. I have added the same functions to the Python library: G...

Re: Guzunty Pi. New users start here.

Hi Toshi, Your last reply contains a previously unstated requirement; that it should be possible to stop and restart the script and have the output state remembered. That functionality is not possible to support in a library because of the way libraries are bound in Linux (and Windows for that matte...

Re: Guzunty Pi. New users start here.

Here is a question that came on the Guzunty wiki, but which is of general interest: Thanks for asking this, Toshi. I can switch any of the output pins On or Off using the following : # Switch output 1 On GZ.spi_set(1) # 0 to 15 time.sleep(5) # Switch output 1 Off GZ spi_reset(1) or for x in range(0,...

Re: HDL? FPGA? why LOGiPi @ kickstarter?

> perhaps 800+ is not so many? 800 is not bad, but that is spread across RPi and BeagleBone Black, I estimate nearer 450 backers were Pi owners. This is from a total potential market of 2 million Pi's shipped, so 0.0225%? It's ok for a product like this. I think $69 for a Spartan 6 is a great deal, ...

Re: HDL? FPGA? why LOGiPi @ kickstarter?

why HDL? Because it is a way to implement things that run _way_ faster than the Pi processor can do it. seems a hard nut to crack? Not sure what you mean, HDL is hard to learn? It can be if you come from a traditional, imperative programming background because it is not always executed sequentially...

Re: Guzunty Pi. New users start here.

Here's another question that might interest other Guzunty users. Thanks Paul. Does an LCD panel really require hybrid mode? Looking at the wiki it says it is for reset and dc, but the vhd file implies these do pass through the Guzunty? And if they aren't through the Guzunty, could they be? Thanks fo...

Pi based lab materials

I have an idea to create some hands on teaching materials to cover topics from the GCSE Computing Specification (J275-Version 1). These materials would cover section 2.1.2 of the the above specification (Computing Hardware). The resources would be hardware based, not a software simulation. They woul...

Answers to your questions built Guzunty as Hybrid Great, then you have even more options. I want to use gz_16o8i (initially), to test feasibility of replacing a couple of mcp23017 Yup, Guzunty will work fine for that purpose. no idea if this is a clocked core or not It's not a clocked core, so GPIO...

Hi, I have interfaced two different steppers using a Guzunty in the past. Here is one I've successfully used http://robocraft.ru/files/datasheet/28BYJ-48.pdf Depending on the quality of your PSU, it is in my experience possible to drive motors like this directly from the Raspberry Pi 5v power. The G...

Delighted you got there in the end. It sounds like the behaviour you're seeing is not too different from my experience. Re: Guzunty Pi. New users start here.

Hey Jackokring, Thank you for your interest in the Guzunty. The answer to your questions vary depending on where you are deriving the I/O drive power for the Guzunty. The Guzunty I/O supply is passed through a jumper so that you can provide an alternate supply if it is needed. By default though, thi...

Re: Guzunty Pi. New users start here.

Hi Steve, I am 99% sure you're never going to get touch working while there is need for JP15 to be linked. JP15 carries GPIO7/CE1 to FB4_MC5 of the CPLD. Now, CE1 is needed for touch operation and my understanding of your findings suggest that GPIO7 is currently needed for screen operation. The two ...

Hi Steve, Sorry for the slow response, I've been on the road. Before I discuss the touch screen wiring, I should set your expectations. Re: Guzunty Pi. New users start here.

Sorry, my fault, I should have been more clear. 5 and 26, don't look right. Did you get those from the pin numbers from the rpt file? Don't forget that the driver doesn't know it is connected to a CPLD. Instead, you need to trace back from them to the RPi GPIO connector to get the number to use for the driver. For example, Pin 5 is connected to G...

Re: Guzunty Pi. New users start here.

Hi Steve, I think you may be trying to initialize the driver with settings intended for the daughter card. A hand wired configuration has to use different signals because the daughter board routes some gpio signals directly to the LCD. Those signals that can't be routed directly on a standard (or co...

Another thing to check, type: ls /dev/fb* and confirm that dev/fb1 is present. Also, please post any error messages from the startx command. Finally, check out the daughter board schematic, it is designed to work with the settings you are using. A hand wired setup will require different settings and...
