Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

I've changed the joystick initialisation code to see if it helps with the UP key problem (it's never happened to me). Can you please test it out? It's here http://mame4all-pi.googlecode.com/git/mametest.zip

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

The Player 1 joystick (buttons 1 to 4) is recognised along with buttons 5 to 8 but buttons 9 & 10 (which I'm trying to assign to coin1 and coin2) are not been recognised and none of Player 2 buttons. MAME 0.37 only supports 6 buttons. Additionally I mapped 9 to Key1 (or Key2 on joystick2), 11 to Ke...

Re: SDL_SetVideoMode problems and Console using Composite

I've found a fix/workaround, comment out the "overscan_left" etc settings in /boot/config.txt

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

For those with Console/composite problems, have you set overscan in /boot/config.txt? Commenting those out seems fix the black screen isue.

I've just uploaded a newer version that clears the input buffers on startup. Try that and let me know.

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

Thanks FortyRock for the information. I had seen these posts before but unfortunately it all relates to SDL problems. Dispmanx is the low level drivers for the Pi's GPU and doesn't have problems with the video, the problem is SDL when it initialises the video, which is required for keyboard/joystick...

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

FortyRock, there's no package dependency on anything else, the "SDL/dispmanx backend" can be installed to work around the buggy default Raspbian SDL drivers (when using Console) until it's fixed (looks like a kernel fix is required). On older versions of Raspbian it works without any problems. Slow ...

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

Nice one FortyRock! SDL is very buggy on the Pi. The latest Raspbian image has problems with SDL video init on the console and composite. Looks like the SDLdispmanx backend may have fixed that. I'm not using SDL for graphics but it has to be initialised to get the SDL keyboard input. UPDATE 2: Got i...

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

FortyRock, I'd need some more info about your setup. What gpu memory setting, Overclocking? Are your ROMS verified as being correct. Can you run mame from the command line as follows "./mame -log invaders" and send us the errorlog.

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

Keyboard remapping should work but it's very limited as the keyboard is currently treated as a joystick due to the way mame4all was originally written. I'm having to rewrite the mame4all input code to handle both keyboards and joysticks - and it's a big headache. I've got a joystick working but it m...

SDL_SetVideoMode problems and Console using Composite

Seems there's a problem with the latest Raspbian 2013-02-09 with SDL_SetVideoMode and using the Console with Composite output. I'm getting a crash in the SDL_FillRect initialisation of the SDL_SetVideoMode function. Running the same code under X-Windows works fine and running the code with Console u...

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

Thanks Welshy! Odd colours? Which games? Would appreciate it logged as an issue with the details at http://code.google.com/p/mame4all-pi/issues/list or else here. Possibly they're 16bit bitmaps, and I'm forcing 8bit only for performance. It won't be the scaling. There's no readable config file...yet...

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

Most 68000 seem to run at 100% (I haven't tested that many as there are a lot!), Neogeo are all 100%, SF2 is mostly 100% and sometimes dips to 55fps other CPS1 are mostly 100%. I'm running overclocked though at 950/350/500. The DRZ80 sound core would help a bit with performance but I can't get it to...

STICKY: MAME4ALL for Pi

I've ported MAME4ALL to the Pi.

It uses MAME v0.37b5 ROMS. Optimised for the Raspberry Pi with dispmanx graphics, SDL input and ALSA sound. Works in X-Windows or Console. Runs with a frontend gui or traditional MAME command line mode.

Get it from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/mame4allpi/

Re: HDMI Audio Drops Out Periodically

I've also found the problem is reduced if you overclock the GPU (as well as the CPU) but it still isn't eliminated. I also get the issue with 720p as well as 1080p. Having to overclock is sort of saying that the Pi isn't really powerful enough to do what I need, i.e. flawless 1080p video & audio wit...

Re: HDMI Audio Drops Out Periodically

Same problem here too. Audio drop out for half a second, video unaffected. Occurs around every few minutes but varies. I've tried RaspBMC, Openelec and they have the same problem. Checked the XBMC and Pi logs and no messages. This is running 1080p/24 and 1080p/60 with the same issue on a Yamaha rece...
