Re: Power supply issue

When the RPi is powered via the micro USB power plug the current first passes through a 'poly' fuse. The poly fuse is a self resetting type. When the fuse is tripped it will self heal if left alone and powered down for a few hours. The fuse designated F3 on the board can only handle about 750mA of c...

Re: Powering USB Hub

I have a generic USB hub and want to power it, how do I power it? Can I input electricity from a phone charger into one of the USBs? If so how? Thanks! I would not attempt to 'backfeed' power into one of the USB ports on your HUB. It may backfeed all the way to the RPi and interfere with the power ...

Re: How to get "@" and "$" characters ?

Re run the config utility and go to the internationalization menu and do the keyboard setup. If your exact keyboard is not listed then choose one of the generic keyboards. After that you will be asked to set the country and some other options.

Re: The one feature needed for future RasPii

Over the past 30 years or so I have messed with computers from C64 to mainframes and every one of them risked data loss if not powered down correctly. A power down switch is not going to do anything for you in the case of a power outage. I also think many corruptions are due to 'brownouts' from bad ...

Re: Installing OS - headlessly (no display device)

I don't know if you can get the NOOBS setup headless. To me headless means network connection (WIFI or wired) with nothing else connected. NOOBS requires interaction, asks you which OS you want to install etc. You may want to try the raw image Raspbian instead. The images are DHCP enabled. The Pidor...

Re: Raspberry TX Serial pin - No Power

The reason I building a power switch in the first place is because I need the Pi to be able to shutdown remotely and cut it's own power. Also I cannot toggle the Pin, either from the terminal or Python. It stays at 0 volts. Connecting a keyboard makes no difference. I have tried a loopback test whi...

Re: RCA Output Problem

There are many cases like yours:
Likely your power supply can not provide enough power AND/OR the USB devises together draw too much power.
The fuse on the RPi limits the amount of current to 750mA even if you have a sufficient power supply.
Try your USB devices on a powered USB hub.

Re: Remote Viewing / SSH'ing / Weird stuff

This is normal. Whenever you log in with SSH or RDP you are starting a completely different session on the RPi independent of the main session screen on the RPi. It's also important that you properly log off from your remote sessions so you don't end up with multiple sessions running on the RPi. I d...

Re: New Pi won't boot with old SD

In order to use the rpi-update command you have to first download and install it and I think some other stuff. https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-update I just use the standard commands. These will update the firmware to a new enough version which will work with both old and new RPi's with the different ...

Re: Can't get past Factory NOOBS initial page

There is no 'factory' SD card. Any 'bundled' cards were made by a 3rd party such as the distributor and may not have the latest updates.
In order to get the latest you need to download from the RPi site and install yourself.

Re: Made a backup, Error on restore

How did you make a backup? Your backup image should be the size of your SD card. If your card is 8GB then the backup will be 8GB. If not you did not backup what you needed. You can only see the boot and installation files from your computer. The rest of the RPi image is on a different Linux type par...
