if RPI is connected to local LAN ( by WIFI or Ethernet ) and PC too still on a newer RASPBIAN SSH must be enabled. if you enable already by the shh file trick / sudo raspi-config / desktop menu [preferences][raspberry pi configuration](interfaces) you should see a warning to change password if you c...

-a- many will try to tell you that because SFTP is installed and much more secure do not use FTP. -b- ftp is not installed by default but you can install it. -c- but filemanager usually have ftp client installed, so also the RASPBIAN desktop filemanager PCMANFM see here just open desktop filemanager...

Re: Help: Best alternative to default Raspbian Stretch Repositories and how to change it

Well, I used an internet manual for headless install and I know realVNC is there but to use it via desktop client, I have to register/signup etc so that made it a bit tedious. So, I have been using TightVNC which seemed to be more convenient to me. ?? i have VNC viewer installed on win7 PCs and all...

Re: Help: Best alternative to default Raspbian Stretch Repositories and how to change it

besides the connection problems, fresh install of Raspbian Stretch ? why you want install tightvncserver ( what kills realVNCserver ) for some time / JESSIE / STRETCH / all use the pre installed realVNC server ( need enable by 'sudo raspi-config' and install realVNC client on PC ) or you just follow...

Re: Help: Best alternative to default Raspbian Stretch Repositories and how to change it

hm, i can not see that updates on STRETCH would have MORE internet connection problems ( from here ) but if you had a JESSIE system and upgarded to STRETCH you should not try to switch back???? pls download and burn a new setup https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_latest and do update on that.

Re: Help: Best alternative to default Raspbian Stretch Repositories and how to change it

you should do sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgarde (or) sudo apt-get dist-upgarde if it fails wait 30min and try again! until ok. i have bad internet times here too, but i see no reason to change anything on the OS! not very sure about this but i just recommend not to try any installs... while a...

-a- for install samba i recommend to install server AND client ( even your concept not require that now. ) -b- link the user pi to samba but use a other "remote" password -c- example config for shared path -d- i not see a difference if you use "JESSIE" or "STRETCH" sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get i...

Re: Pi zero, Peristaltic pump, and power supply's

if you use this circuit
you give 5V to that motor.
if it is a 12V motor it might not start.

but if you connect the red wire to a 12V supply ( and not to 5V ) ( and connect GND of the 12V PS too ) all will be ok.

I tried the sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=/dev/sda bs=100M there are many ways to make a USB stick, all same as using a SD card. wanting a copy from the actual system can also use RASPBIAN Desktop "SD card copier" tool. but one of many possible problems might be that THIS usb stick can not boot... to ...

if you work headless you need for setup ++ ssh file ++ wpa_supplicant.conf file and that should be prepared on your PC. if you want save time and you use etcher for writing a image you go etcher setup and can DISABLE -- eject on success ( so not need to take out / in sd card for the file copy) -- va...

yes, over the time strategies changed, and i also use the SD card copier tool now ( using full RASPBIAN ) to make copies ?backup? to other SD card and USB stick. still it can make sense to backup a RPI system to a .img file to a PC HD ( and zip it down ) but zip and unzip gets unreasonable time cons...

Re: Pi zero, Peristaltic pump, and power supply's

if you have to do such a BIG JOB : 12v 80ma dc motor there is no other way as to use 2 power supplies -a- separated mains/12VDC mains/5VDC OR -b- mains/12VDC and 12VDC/5VDC but as i think for me for a very small job: VERY SILENT / remote controlled / air bubbling for a mini aquarium. i think about u...
