if you use this circuit
you give 5V to that motor.
if it is a 12V motor it might not start.

but if you connect the red wire to a 12V supply ( and not to 5V ) ( and connect GND of the 12V PS too ) all will be ok.

yes, over the time strategies changed, and i also use the SD card copier tool now ( using full RASPBIAN ) to make copies ?backup? to other SD card and USB stick. still it can make sense to backup a RPI system to a .img file to a PC HD ( and zip it down ) but zip and unzip gets unreasonable time cons...
