Re: GPIO and root (again)

There's no real way to use python and GPIO package without using it as root, which in all honesty is a piece of cake. Just starting it on the command line, just do "sudo python script.py". I doesnt ask for a password or anything, so it's not going to require inputting the password to start it or any...

Re: No Sound Output on Jack

Im not sure what to offer anymore, it works fine on my system. you do hear the click when you first start the program, and after it's loaded up, if you press space bar, it does make the gunshot sound just fine. The only thing I can think of is something in the different systems because I use Occiden...

Re: No Sound Output on Jack

ok, last try... I tried finding some way that it would do what your talking about, and I think I found it... the only way I could mimic that is if you do not have the .wav files in the same folder as the script. if they're in the same folder, it'll work fine. could you list all of the files in your ...

Re: OpenCV not processing webcam input correctly

Im honestly not sure if this will help much, but Ive seen some people having issues on the raspberry pi and opencv with a camera, it'd be fine if it was a resolution at, and some below 320x240.

Re: No Sound Output on Jack

my bad, lack of sleep, it is "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade", not sudo dist-upgrade :P and run "sudo rpi-update" before that.
I really am sorry about that one...

Re: Help a beginner with a simple program.

Ive seen the strings and multiplication symbols being used to repeat a string over and over again a certain amount of times. like this: x = "123\n" print x * 10 and it'd output: 123 123 123 123 123 123 123 123 123 123 ps. I didnt have any books or anything to learn python from, but if your getting s...

Re: No Sound Output on Jack

I had this problem until I ran "sudo dist-upgrade" and it fixed it after that. also run sudo rpi-upgrade before that too to make sure all system files are up to date. it was an issue with the drivers being old I believe.

Re: webserver frontend with Python

I did something like this a while back for a pc to pic interface, but should easily be converted to use on the pi with no trouble at all.
send me a PM and I can send you the code and what I have if you want it.

Re: Problem with Mysql with python3

Ive looked around the internet and you can try doing this command "sudo apt-get install python3-mysql" without the quotes, but alot of things I saw was there was little to no real support for mysql in python3, only 2.x, which most software runs on anyhow. I'd just stick with python 2.7 that came wit...

Re: turning gpio buttons into keys

sorry for two posts, but remembered something to mention, dont forget to add button debouncing after the command otherwise it'll just spam the key while the button is pressed down. a simple debounce can be achieved by using:

time.sleep(0.1)

sorry if Im semi reviving an answered post, but I just saw the new Raspberry Pi A boards, and it's the same exact thing as the B boards without the ethernet, or the extra usb connector, maybe that's what your looking for.

Re: Python versions

Just leave it, I honestly dont use python 3.x because almost all code examples you find on here and around the internet are for the python 2.x version. There's different ways of coding in python 3.x and some examples wont run in it that ran in 2.x. also, the OS uses the 2.x python for system stuff, ...

Re: turning gpio buttons into keys

I did something like this a while back, but for a game controller, and used python-uinput from here to translate the button presses to keyboard keys, for use in the python game. Here's the link for the python-uinput:

hope this helps.

Re: Running two GPIO python scripts at once

I can verify that two python scripts do run together, I have one that blinks GPIO.4 at or above a certain temperature and one that sends data out the serial port to a PIC chip and they both run fine.

Re: Need help for basic client-server

I did a project like this a while ago, and after looking through your code, try deleting the "host = socket.gethostname()" part and replace it with host = "" on the server, I believe in server based stuff, "host =" is from what addresses to accept connections from. If you just set it to "" instead, ...
