Accessibility Problem with raspi-config over SSH

Hello. I'm a blind raspi user. I have spent the weekend trying to get up and running with mixed success. I am trying very hard to do this without any sighted assistance. The one major problem I have so far is with raspi-config. Because there are no screen-readers enabled in Raspbian I am connecting ...

Re: How to get started using the serial port

The nice thing about standards is there are so many to choose from.

How can I identify which device is being used by a PL2303 USB to serial converter?

Re: Accessibility, Screen Readers and Remote Initial Login?

I just got up and running today and I'm totally blind. I tried Mobaxterm but it must be written in Qt or something because with NVDA screen-reader on Windows it's not accessible. I use Putty. SSH is enabled by default in the latest Wheezy images. Can you tell me how to view what modules are compiled...

Re: 32Gb card but only 30Mb free. How to change?

Is there a command-line way to do what the 'expand root' option at the top of the config menu does? I ask because I just got going today via SSH in console mode because I'm blind, and I don't know if I will be able to get back out of the config menu once I'm in :-/

Serial via USB and PL2303 ootb?

Can anybody tell me whether the latest Raspbian images have serial out via USB enabled by default? I want to plug a PL2303 USB to RS232 adaptor into my Pi and see the boot messages and be able to log in this way. Thanks

Re: Start without any screen

Once you have plugged your Pi into the router and given it time to boot, go to a command prompt on the laptop and type 'netstat'. That should give you what IP address the router has given your Pi. Then use something like PuTTY or Mobaxterm to SSH to it

Re: Confused blind newbie

OK I'm an idiot...I haven't got my SD card with Raspbian on it yet and the card I was holding up to the board to get a feel for it was a mini-SD, not an SD card. The only full size card I have here is in my talking book reader so I guess I have to chew my fingers until Monday

Re: Confused blind newbie

I think the card holder on my Pi is damaged. It is really hard to know because I can't see pictures but looking at the underside of the board there is no cover over the card slot so there is nothing to keep the card properly seated

Re: Confused blind newbie

Thanks for your help. Yes on Windows I use an Open Source screen-reader called NVDA, and on Vinux (Visually Impaired Linux) I use Orca. I have used Linux for years professionally. One more question...why does the SD card holder seem too wide to hold my SD card?

Confused blind newbie

Hello. Got my first Pi today and I am confused by it and can't get off first base. I am blind. As far as I can tell there are no connectors wide enough to accept a USB device. Also, what are the little things on the board which have a little thing that lift up slightly and then click back into posit...

Re: Screen reader (Orca)

Well it took few days as I'm not the most experience Linux user ;) But after much fiddling I got ORCA running so I can now use my Pi properly even though I can't see it :) Nice. Can you share how you got Orca going? Which distro? I have just got my Pi and will need to do the same. And there are oth...

Re: BLind newbie

Does this mean that SSH is NOT enabled by default? How can I find the option to switch it on if I can't see? Can you describe the config screen? e.g. is it a list of options, a treeview? How many key-strokes to get to the option to switch it on? Thanks

Re: BLind newbie

I think there may be an issue with the audio sub-system on the Raspbi. I know there has been some work done by the guys from the Vinux team but currently Ubuntu won't run on it(?) I think that's right. I will be having a crack at getting it going, and also at compiling a kernel with SpeakUp! in it. ...

Hello. My first Raspberry Pi is on it's way to me in the post. Although I've been a professional programmer for 20 years and hark from the days of the first 6502 based home computers, I'm now totally blind.
