Using a Raspberry Pi as a piano

I've uploaded a video to Youtube about how to use a Raspberry Pi as a piano with the help of JACK, LinuxSampler and the Salamander Grand Piano sample library: Using a Raspberry Pi as a piano: quick demo I've also written an accompanying blogpost that explains in detail how I've set everything up: Us...

Re: RPi and real-time, low-latency audio

Hi JulianBrooks,

I'm disabling swap altogether so I'm not sure if using zram would make a difference. It won't affect audio so it's worth a try I guess.

Was leuk!

Hi BYN, I'm a bit in the same boat, just got a WM8731 based codec in and I'm very eager to get it to work. Maybe these links could be helpful for your project too: http://www.noiseisgood.co.nz/?p=365 http://blog.koalo.de/2013/05/i2s-support-for-raspberry-pi.html http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/vie...

Re: Music Calibration

Hi Does anyone know how to connect a CASIO or other electric music keyboard via MIDI to raspberry PI How is it done? Easiest and cheapest method would be to use an USB MIDI cable: http://dx.com/p/usb-2-0-to-midi-converter-adapter-cable-178-5cm-length-110980 You connect the USB end to your RPi and c...

You could also install LinuxSampler and the Salamander Grand Piano SFZ. Works remarkably well on the RPi.

Then your UA-25 probably doesn't get enough power. I've got an UA-25 too and I'm using it with a powered USB hub and a power supply of over 3.5A.

Re: RPi and real-time, low-latency audio

Hi I have a 256Mb model B Pi and I am trying to work through your setup. I have installed jack1 OK from the added repository, and am trying to use a UA-25 for the audio usb device. However the Pi does not seem to see this. I see references to it as the Pi boots, but lsusb doesn't see it and jack ca...

Re: Help! Mixxx on arch linux

Hi Jade,

You probably can get Mixxx to work on the RPi. If it will be usable, I highly doubt it. And isn't Mixxx in AUR? If so you should be able to get it from there.

Re: USB Soundcard Prevents Boot

A few seconds after having started Pd (and at other, seemingly random times) I still often get a real fuzzy, almost square wave-like, sound. I seem to be able to work around it by "sudo renice"-ing the jackd and puredata processes, i.e. giving them a higher prio. This seems to results in no sound a...

Worked! Limiting the number of inputs and output ports like you said allow me to run jackd! Great! I don't know why rakarrack tries to launch jack with other parameters, anyway i just run jackd manually then rakarrack and then qjackctl to make connections as i wanted. Almost every JACK only app lau...

My USB ENMAB-8CM audio card is detected with no problems by ALSA, and its volume controls are completly configurable. Hello Mr_LinDowsMac, could you post the output of cat /proc/asound/cards with the USB interface attached? I'm trying to set up JACK with the following command: jackd -P80 -p16 -t200...

Re: Jack2 - no output (ALSA works)

What I could think of is PureData wanting to initialize/query the USB interface (independent of ALSA/JACK) settings and stumbles upon an invalid configuration/problem causing it to report an error instead of properly initializing the interface. Afaik there is no Linux audio software that does this....

Re: Jack2 - no output (ALSA works)

Thanks for the links! The iMic itself does all internal processing at 24bit resolution but the OS currently has a more narrow range of options, topping out at 16bit/48KHz. If you're using the iMic with a standard Windows compatible program, your optimum recording resolution will be at 16-bit/48KHz. ...

Re: Jack2 - no output (ALSA works)

The iMic is capable of 24bit capture and output in 44100 and 48000 Hz, and it seems it reports this facility also to Jack/ALSA, else Jack wouldn't try to select it, right? Did you try running JACK with a 48KHz sample rate? And do you have any information that this device can do 48KHz/24bit because ...

Heya, thanks for your help already :-) Just for your information: the Griffin iMic is a full fledged USB sound card (1 stereo in, 1 stereo out), with full duplex functionality. Since you're using JACK with a mic which is a capture only device you might want to use the ALSA -C option.

No looks good. Should work without the -S too, do you have any specs of your USB mic? With respect to Pd, do you get any error messages when selecting JACK?

Re: Jack2 - no output (ALSA works)

I'm not using any asound.conf/.asoundrc files myself and I wouldn't use those to do any any kind of conversion. It will introduce extra latency and probably cause xruns. What is your full JACK command right now?

Re: Jack2 - no output (ALSA works)

Second problem was: Jack will ONLY run if I add the "-S" (capital S) to the command line. I think this means trying to get 16bit audio only. If I leave it out, Jack wants to run in 24bit audio, which apparently my sound card (USB Griffin iMic) won't support. jackd -d alsa -S indeed means to use JAC...
