Re: Using Scratch with Minecraft

The challenges in coding have been the coordinate system, x, z lay flat and y is height; and the box number '0' seems to be something like 'void', with a box type '35' I could build some piles. And minecraft pi grabs the mouse pointer, so it was needed to pause this when changes in scratch have bee...

Re: Using Scratch with Minecraft

Unfortunately it seems to be no longer possible to download 1.4 project files via the 'embed' feature because there appears to be no such feature. It's possible to download from Scratch here , see Download 1.4 Project after clicking on Embed (maybe you need Flash in the browser for this to work). I...

Re: Using Scratch with Minecraft

It is possible to control Minecraft PI Edition using the built-in Scratch 1.4, see this project:
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/13703270/
Also see this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyxO5gANs3I
I've not tested this in a long time, so something could have changed that breaks it.

Can one use the FM radio receiver on the Raspberry Pi Zero W? On the Pi 3 I think the problem was that the FM-antenna was not exposed.

Runs out of RAM, has to pull plug

It happens that I run out of RAM (Random Access Memory) when I use the web browser Chromium on e.g. Twitter. I have a RAM-indicator ("Resource monitor") and 1 GB RAM - 64 MB for GPU. First the Raspberry Pi becomes slow and then it freezes completely. I usually can't shut down the tab or the browser,...

Web Hosting Service on a Raspberry Pi for Students

I would like to run a web hosting service on a Raspberry Pi. It's for a course in web development for senior high school students. They should be able to log in and upload files via SSH to their own account, but should not be able to access other students' files or directories, unless they make them...

Re: The MagPi does C :-)

Scratch can do what it likes, we're talking about C here.... Got the message yet ? I don't agree with the message. I think one must take into account what the readers know before (e.g. Scratch) and the competition (e.g. Java, C++, or ARM-assembly). Maybe one also needs to add fork() to a beginners ...

Re: The MagPi does C :-)

I think the book should include function pointers and longjmp, because it’s what’s needed to emulate polymorphism and exceptions from C++ in C, respectively. You do know that the book is intended for beginners don't you? I can't see why you would think such topics are suitable for a beginners book....

Re: Flash Player now available for Chromium

I also think that Flash should be in its own package, and not in rpi-chromium-mods. It's OK for me if Flash is installed by default, but it should be easy to uninstall. Here is how it looks during installation in Raspbian (Swedish) on Pi Zero: ┌────────────────────┤ Konfigurerar rpi-chromium-mods ├─...

Re: The MagPi does C :-)

I’ve written a Tetris-program for Raspberry Pi that is beyond this book because it uses function pointers and longjmp. https://github.com/mobluse/blockis It also uses SPI to a MAX7219 8x8 LED matrix. I think the book should include function pointers and longjmp, because it’s what’s needed to emulate...

I can't get https://play.spotify.com/browse to work in Chromium on Raspbian, but it works in Chrome on Windows 10. Scratch 2 works in both. When I go to Spotify Web Player in Raspbian it immediately jumps to https://www.spotify.com/. In Windows 10 it stays on the original page. I have switched on al...

Re: PIXEL desktop: Large menu folders crash taskbar

After making sure you have an Icon line in all your .desktop files, as before, do the following: rm -rf ~/.config/menus rm -rf ~/.local/share/applications rm -rf ~/.local/share/desktop-directories rm -rf ~/.cache/menus [...] Reboot - see what the Other category does now. Unfortunately it doesn't wo...

Here for those who do not want to modify the files by hand. A handy one liner to add the Icon line where necessary: for file in $(find /usr/local/share/applications /usr/share/applications -name "*.desktop"); do if [[ -n $(grep -IRiL "Icon" $file) ]] ; then echo "Patching File: $file" ; sudo echo "...

Will the pi3 be remaining at the $35 price tag (not including inflation from resellers) Or will it be shooting up in price after the "sale" is over? $35 is the price. This is not a sale, this is simply selling. Why do you think it's a sale? Everywhere but in Sweden that is. The MSRP is 499 SEK or t...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Q&A thread

Looks like BCM43438 also has FM radio capability. Is there a chance of accessing it? If yes, is there a way to connect an external antenna? Nope and nope. PCB technology limits mean that we couldn't route out the FM antenna pin. It's left disconnected underneath the chip, unfortunately. Maybe one c...

There was some message that they didn't want http://swag.raspberrypi.org/ to compete with their resellers, but I can't find it now. You can buy Pi:s etc in other shops, e.g. https://www.pi-supply.com/ https://shop.pimoroni.com/ http://thepihut.com/
