my assumption was i needed to run this command on the pi after starting a ssh -X connection and before you run the lxsession&. I did this and something changed. I can now access the task bar and run applications from there. I still can not select the pi icons from the desktop but i can select the m...

Well I feel a little dumb for going through all that I went through because I did not capitalize an X. Just for learning I re-imaged my sd card and tried it without installing running "su apt-get install tightvncserver" and using the capital X. well i finally got the GUI to work. I did not realize that the sever had to be installed on the RPI. Thanks for the help. It was a very learning day.

I did not have the installation disk for Mac OSX because I downloaded it off the internet. I did some web searching and found out that x server did not come with OS 10.8. Found the password also and it booted up. Yeah.

Can you tell me more about using ssh. How would you connect? I have never done that before. I dont have a wireless adapter for the RPI. I was planning to connect it to an ethernet cable.

I also noticed that I have two partitions on the sd card. I understand that i have to expand the 2gb partition because my sd 8gb. I will find out how to do that. But can someone tell me why i have a 58.7 mb partition. Is that a boot partition or something?

Thank you for the wiki info. I followed the directions and I think I got it. Still waiting for an adapter to connect my monitor but will have it soon. Thanks for all the help.

I downloaded the RPI-sd card builder v1.1 and am trying to get the image on the sd card.

I am getting the following error

I downloaded the .img file to my mac. It does not appear to be zipped unless I dont know how to recognize a zipped file on a mac. can someone give me instruction for burning an .img file to an sd card on a mac.

Thank you for your help. I was wondering if the connector adapted would work or if it required conversion. I think you are saying no conversion required. I will check to make sure the monitor is dvi-d. Thanks for the configuration info also. I am a real novice but am golng to have some fun learning.

I just got a rpi and the first issue I need to resolve is that my monitor does not have hdmi. Can I use an hdmi to dvi adapter or are there better low cost solutions?
