Re: Minor usb hardware issue?

Ok so my setup is something like this: 65w 16v laptop power adaptor provides the power. for step down I have 2-3(I have been altering config a little) car lighter socket USB output adaptors 1 adaptor for each hub (2) then 1 adaptor for Pi and HD. Each power adaptor puts out 2.1A! Hard drives I have ...

Re: Minor usb hardware issue?

Well I just presumed this was minor, because the hard drive works if you plug it in once its past the black boot up bit and its fine to boot with other storage devices , I thought it could be some sort of boot up addressing error. I have a usb to IDE/SATA adaptor, which is different to the external ...

Minor usb hardware issue?

On my Pi I have 2x 4port USB hubs, one has bluetooth/wifi the other has mouse/keyboard and a HD connected. With my setup I have power supplies which power 2 hubs/Pi and the HD seperate(rather than through the hub) For some reason when the Hard drive is plugged in the Pi starts to boot into Raspbian ...

Re: AROS (AmigaOS API-compatible)

Thanks for making one up to try, but it does the same thing. So I format an SD card to Fat32, I copy the berry boot files onto it and then plug the card into the Pi. I plug in my hub and gubbins, one of which is the USB stick with the squash img on it. When berryboot loads it comes up asking to sele...

Re: AROS (AmigaOS API-compatible)

Ok I thought ah no I have tried that, but if I do type startx It starts doing something and then it comes up with errors and stuff and eventually fires up and goes back to the bash command line.

I then did apt-get update and it downloaded a few bits but still didnt improve.

So basically no worky! :(

Re: AROS (AmigaOS API-compatible)

Ok I am a little frustrated now :( So I downloaded berryboot which worked fine. I downloaded the 'test' AROS from there site (the one designed to be an image for pi) the file is called debian6-19-04-2012.img. So I then follow the commands written at the bottom of the page where it says about basical...

Re: The Book of Pi...

Well I have had some more time to carry on with building this. Wiring was something I wasnt sure about and originalyl planned to chop up a few USB leads, well I didnt have to do that! Basically because of space I thought I need a more compact solution and then I though Ribbon Cable! so I found an ol...

Re: AROS (AmigaOS API-compatible)

Sorry to push an older thread to the surface but I have been trying to install AROS and using google it came to this link. I downloaded the broadway X SD card image from AROS used win32 Diskimager to write the the image to a 4gb SD card, I had originally tried it on and 8gb one too, but basically no...

Re: Building a 5v UPS using LM317 IC. Help needed.

I have just been looking into this a bit more myself as it got me thinking that I could build a mini ups using 1.2V NiMh rechargable AA batteries. In my system I have an 18v live rail, but the UPS part would be 6V like your first post indicated, which is kind of my goal, its much easier to do conver...

Re: Running a Pi and gubbins on Battery power?

Yes I guess I should have explained more clearly my battery intentions. basically 2x(5x 1.2v 3000mA AA rechargable) to give 6V 6A in theory. As sugessted battery life may vary. I think I looked at AA batteries mainly because reasonable ones arent that expensive, their size means the fit my configura...

Running a Pi and gubbins on Battery power?

Ok so I am building a raspberry 'book set' as such, it started out as one book, its now going to be 2 as the second will contain a DVD drive and maybe some batteries. After reading someone elses thread about a 'UPS' for a Pi, I thought its actually not a bad idea although I was thinking of maybe run...

Re: what power do you use?

Well I moved on slightly with this and basically have been looking at a few ideas, it seems you can get 12-24v to 5v 4A convertors on ebay, which would mean you could use something like a power supply for a laptop which tends to be in that rating. This was approach 1, a single power supply for every...

Re: Crazy Idea - CPU Cooler for the Pi

Ultimately I suspect the only way you could make it actually work is to use a thermoelectric cooler, nut sure if you could get one small enough but basically using a small device thats powered it has a hot side and a cold side, when I say cold I mean cold enough that they use them in cool boxes! I s...

Re: Do NOT buy Farnell's USB hub

are you only having problems when you plug in your hard drive? As I found the other day, I bought a £1 non powered usb hub from a pound shop which I then added a a capacitor to and a usb cable to plug into a blackberry 1amp charger (the same as what powers my Pi although its HTC charger) now while t...

Re: Crazy Idea - CPU Cooler for the Pi

have you tried it out yet to see how hot it gets? have you looked at the type of heatsinks laptops have? I am fitting a small aluminium cooler and going to work on convection cooling as most small devices dont need that much cooling. My Pi after running for a few hours on the internet was about 35c ...

is there anything like msn/skype with webcam capability? Not that I have plugged a webcam into my RPi to see if it reconises it yet, although I was impressed that it needed no drivers for my usb wifi thingy. but me and my g/f occasionally either use skype or msn with webcam and I wondered if the RPi...

Have you tried running it yet or are you still in the process of buying? So are you just looking for a wireless access point?

Although I dont know how yet I know its possible to use the pi as a Wifi access point/range extender.

OR are you looking for it to be a Wifi access point that at an incoming file is attached to an email and then sent?

Re: Building a 5v UPS using LM317 IC. Help needed.

well there may be a pre built solution for this, kind of. if you can get your hands on one or look online at how it's built, a 12v emergency light pack. Mr16 halogen spot lamps as found in some office buildings are run by a unit which has a circuit, 6v 4ah battery and 2 transformers to run off Mains...

Re: 40 LEDs using a single pin

You might be ok, I have seen shift registers used in a massive display before, I think you would need to look a t a different power supply to power both LEDs and Pi. When we had a display at work that consisted of an LED matrix (8x5 modules but lots of them to display txt) I stripped the units down ...
