Re: USB Stick vs SD card on Pi A/B/B+/Zero/2

I guess my main interest was about reliability and if it performs as well as an average class 4 micro SD. I have a couple of Rpis that I plan to do all sorts with as mentioned various models. Frequently I set up 2 at my house as CCTV recorders while I'm away should anything happen in the day I can s...

USB Stick vs SD card on Pi A/B/B+/Zero/2

So I am understanding that you can use a small SD card containing just the 'boot' bit thats normally on the windows formatted part of the card to boot the Pi to a USB stick. I wondered whether people have noticed in improvements of performance or if there are any issues with this? Basically at work ...

Re: Multiple usb disks as one with Pi?

I wondered if there was a method for which you could get the pi to mount a disk when it was inserted and essentially just add it on to existing storage? The feature you are looking for is provided by modern filesystems such as zfs on Solaris and btrfs on Linux. Raspbian uses a recent enough Linux k...

Re: Multiple usb disks as one with Pi?

I thought at the moment I have a 1tb btsync server at home running a model B, if I could start with the amount I need (which is like 256gb straight away) then add more sticks later If you already have the 1T server in the house, why does your bedside clock radio thing need 256+ gigs? The 1tb server...

Re: Multiple usb disks as one with Pi?

yes there is but in reality it is best avoided - if ones dies they all die... you can add a new drive and mount it anywhere on the file system. or also see SSD's for size and quietness. SSDs are not all that cheap and also are 2.5" memory sticks are a fair bit smaller. The thing you say about the o...

Multiple usb disks as one with Pi?

I started looking online earlier and wasnt sure if it was possible, but I was looking into the idea of building an expandable server. I thought at the moment I have a 1tb btsync server at home running a model B, its one of my few projects thats been successful, but it uses a WD 3.5" external hard dr...

Re: SD Card image works with one device but not others?

Well I have been away for a few weeks, so didnt have time to come back to this. Basically the original install was a downloaded raspbian wheezy from this site, installed and then a few modifications to enable to camera, a script for the camera and some modification to the start up so the script woul...

So do you think I could just copy the newer files on to the old boot partition from a newer install and that would do it?

Re: SD Card image works with one device but not others?

Ok so the plot thickens a little. Known working image and SD card, put it in a model B after shutting my server down thats running one and it works fine, however the thing I found didnt work was the camera app? This was on the card I had updated and dist-updated, so then I have another SD card with ...

Re: Saving to USB

Although I dont have a direct response, I am thinking if the USB is mounted correctly you should be able to see it in the /mnt/ folder.

I have a couple of Pi btsync servers and had to set the drive to mount at the begining and I can access it if I go through the mnt folder.

Re: SD Card image works with one device but not others?

Its not going to be used on a 3/Zero generally as I have several B+ units for the job, if I can get it to work on one of those will be enough!.

I'll give the distro upgrade a go, as I did update and upgrade lastnight which hasnt resolved the issue yet.

SD Card image works with one device but not others?

So couple of years back when there was just A and B Pi's before the plus/2/zero/3 I was using some of my devices as remote CCTV running from battery, using stuff from the raspi.tv website. The setup was great and a learning experience using the camera and finding out how power hungry these little de...

Re: Getting the ACT light back working on a Rpi A?

See I cant remember of any of that was in the original config.txt, I looked yesterday and the only thing I could identify in the Config txt was the dtparam line that I took out, but it didnt make a difference. Originally it was a case of 'add this line' to the config file, so I figured taking it out...

Getting the ACT light back working on a Rpi A?

So I built a media centre a while ago, which started by testing a 16gb mem card on a Pi B+, set it all up and got some basic stuff working including moving the ACT light to one of the GPIO pins as the media centre was going in a PC case and I was using the PC case LEDs. I bought a Pi2B and built a n...

Raspberry pi coding vs Arduino Coding

I totally understand the difference between the 2 devices, as I own both, I have been using my raspberry pi for ages and gradually learning a bit of code and understand a little. With the arduino its a horses for courses situation, its a microcontroller thats very powerful, where as the pi is a smal...

Re: Random USB thing, why would it be used?

With that RS one is it guaranteed to have throughput?

Its something I found with some battery banks I bought on ebay, most banks dont do throughput, I have just 1 that does even though I bought 5 more like it, they were actually a different circuit inside!

Re: Random USB thing, why would it be used?

I did wonder that, a bit like all the ferrites on all the cables, some of which seemed a little excessive! But I wondered this capacitor type device, would it provide some sort of UPS element for a Rpi? Its only because at my parents occasionally there are power dips in storms where the power flicke...

Re: Infra Red Remotes and clean power supplies?

Well yes of sorts, I understand that the pi's input needs to be 3.3v input only, strangely the IR puts out nothing if powered by 3.3v like most of the tutorials I have followed. my plan was to put something inline as you suggest like a voltage divider, but I guess I am suffering another problem in t...

Infra Red Remotes and clean power supplies?

Ok so I have been building an OSMC based media centre, which I have done various testing on a breadboard building on/off switches and testing the IR for a remote before finally installing into a small media PC case with an ATX power supply. I figured the ATX power supply would be a great bonus becau...
