Re: Setup Git Server for Pi on Windows Machine

Bear in mind that git's performance on Windows is so utterly abysmal that Microsoft decided to look into it, and concluded that their filesystem and VFS-equivalent design is so atrocious[0] that it's actually pathological for git. You're probably better off running a repo in a VM on Windows than nat...

The answer given in that question is probably the best solution, but there is a libpam-cap package in Raspbian if you insist.

We do. It's beta. For some reason it was announced in the 'General discussion' topic here: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=274595.

Re: 110V DC for USB-C Power Supply for Raspberry Pi 4

Yeah. As I say, I get nervous around anything more than 48VDC. Skin breakdown is something like 60V, after which your muscles can clamp down on a power source and make you fry yourself. *That* sort of thing makes me nervous. As does the clutch of walking biohazards known as 'the general public'. I'm...

Re: Looking for CLI Player for 4K Content

What firmware and kernel versions? Avoid the 64b kernels for now. Also, /proc/cmdline would be useful, along with your full config.txt.

I had it playing last night on mine, so I know it can be done.

Re: Why are iNodes increasing

Are you running out of inodes, or just interested in where they're disappearing to? If you've used <20%, I wouldn't worry. If you want to find out where they are, I'd probably just run a find over the filesystem, looking for any large directories. Something like find $dir -type d -size +16k should d...

Re: Moving Linux Kernel to 5.4

So with some testing this evening, vlc under 5.4.42-v8+ will play HEVC happily, and anything software-rendered, using 'dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d'. You get audio out of H.264 streams, but no video. omxplayer just barfs. With the 32b 5.4.42-v7l+, both vlc and omxplayer do H.264, and vlc does HEVC and sof...

Bung it through a compressor and you shouldn't need anything like that... Use something reasonably light, and it may even be quicker.

Re: Raspbian - use btrfs instead of ext4 ?

And that's the problem: you more or less can't. The standard initramfs-tools package doesn't allow for multiple kernel versions, which is a limitation that has long-annoyed me, but not enough to attempt to do anything about it. I've managed to get around the problem with my NFS-on-bridge-interface i...

Re: Moving Linux Kernel to 5.4

Good. I had to ask. Of course. Anyway, I've just spent an hour or so with two virtually identical installations, doing some truely heinous things involving symlinks, and I've tracked it down to one thing: cma=512M in cmdline.txt. Without it, the kernel allocates 256M of it, and the thing boots with...

Re: Moving Linux Kernel to 5.4

Yes, it does appear that I can boot the pi with another filesystem and it works, but I'm loathe to simply dump this one and start again because it's annoying to keep doing that, and I haven't done anything odd to it that I can think of that would cause this problem. The wifi works perfectly happily ...

Re: What kind of power supply to this USB 3 hub?

That's 5V at 2A. No idea if it'll be enough for your devices, and of course there's no telling how the thing is connected up internally: you may end up back-powering the Pi via its USB port if you're not careful. That may be a bad thing; I don't know.
