Terribly sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm having the same problem: USB hub and devices connected to it are no longer visible in lsusb or dmesg after RPi reboot. Only solution after reboot is to power-cycle USB hub and unplug/plug it into RPi . Any followup from OP or possible solutions emer...

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but here's an update with good news. I tried the USB Y cable and that worked fine with no problems, so that may be a solution if you're having the same problem. HDD having no issues with other devices means nothing. Mine HDD too worked well on PC and on raspberry while running films etc. But have issues while writing. I suggest to download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (free try version) to check the Hdd. It is a brand new drive that presented exactly the sam...

I've been having the same issue for a while, which I posted here . It works well for a while and then I get I/O errors like you have mentioned. It does not back-feed power, and the RPi turns off when I unplug it; the hub is advertised as being able to power the pi, though, but I did not use it that way.

Yeah, the USB hub and the RPi both have their own plug. I was considering it may be the USB hub causing the problems, but I don't see how that might happen some time afterwards, instead of right away.
