Re: Raspberry Pi as a QR Scanner?

Android is not a good way to go as:
1. It is incredibly slow.
2. It does not have the market/play store. That has to be payed for by the manufacturer.

with the model A you may be able to do this, but you will need a good solar panel. what are the specs of the battery?

The source is only available read only, and i don't want to get in trouble for porting it to the raspberry pi.

Re: hdmi to vga

hdmi to vga only works with active adapters on the pi(ie some kind of box changing the signal to vga). passive adapters (ie a cable with hdmi at one end and vga at the other) do not work on the pi.

Why port android. Why not port the apps?

There is an interesting utility here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910873 that will convert .apk files into java. Rather than port android, an operating system that needs time to port, we should port this, perhaps create an operating system like androidthat takes .apk files and t...

Re: I have no experience in anything, is this viable?

most of the original hardware (ie buttons, power etc.) should work, but when it comes to using the screen, don't bother with the original, use one from somewhere else. The setup might be a bit bigger than the gameboy, and look a little odd.

Re: Should i get one?

Depending on your point of view, comparing a raspberry Pi with the original mini could be interpreted as derogitary to the Pi. The Pi is probably an order of magnitude or two more reliable that the old mini..... Never owned one, but I've driven one and repaired one or two in my time. It was like mo...

if you want more ram, gpu and cpu get a smartphone (high end ones are definitely more powerful)! the rpi isn't about power, it's about minimalism, about being a $25 computer.

try looking for yt - it could be a little daunting though, as it runs from the commandline (the video is about all the graphics you will get) and it works with omxplayer, which is one of the best video software thingys for the pi. or you could you something xbmc based (rasbmc, openelec, plexbmc etc ...

If you really need to connect to it physically (to play mcpi for example) you could always try work out how the lcd works. in fact i looked into this, and i found the ds lcd is a custom one, but one guy has figured it out, search google for jumbotron ds.
