As far as I understand my board already has a camera port, but does it mean that I can connect only one camera?

Re: Pi 4 start up, timing with router

booting a Pi without a network connection should never result in a permanent network outage... what kind of OS is running on that Pi4? does the Pi4 fail to (re)authenticate? does it eventually not get a DHCP lease just in time? I think identifying and fixing the root cause would result in a better s...

I found another RPi4 and fired it up. nice. What's the difference in terms of installed software between the two? What can I do now given that it does not allow me to type anything in? try the other device: picocom /dev/ttyUSB1 So now it seems like it is actually doing stuff... right. Even wwan0 wi...

it appears the absence of /dev/ttyUSBx indicates the modem operates in hilink mode. What does ifconfig -a say? Does either 'wwan0' or 'eth1' exist? In that case I can't help you further. Sorry. This means that the modem does not register as a serial port. I have other serial port devices which when plugged in cause the /dev/ttyUSBxxx device to appear. could you issue tail -F /var/log/messages then plug in the modem and watch the logging? doing this I get: Aug 30 14:42:42 rpi-u kernel: [ 3...

Re: 4G broadband dongle attached ti RPi4 - how to enable network

largely depends on what you intent to do exactly. Do you want to - setup internet access to run over 4G and keep the local connectivity as is? - install all automatically by means of some network/modem-manager? - manually install everything step by step via some lower level utility like 'wvdial'? th...

Re: RP Camera Night Vision "IR-CUT" (5MP)

the built in IR LEDs should be sufficient for objects within 1-2 meters. Did you test within such an area? There obviously are at least 2 different switchable IR-CUT versions out there: - automatic with LDR - manual (controlled by 'abused' disable_camera_led=1) you appear to have the second one. Doe...

Re: Security "Feature" in Rasbian / Pi OS - sudo do not need a password - since end of 2016

I'm working with ultrix/unix/linux since more than 30 years now. One of the first utilities I wrote is the following. Just escape to root where needed. With no boring passwds etc. I hadn't to change much of the code all the years, to get this still compiled. Simply works everywhere. Of course on the...

Re: In need of a long power source for Pi4

if an 100Mbps ethernet connection is sufficient for your project I would use something like an Passive PoE Injector solution: Passive PoE Injector Cable Set ID: 435 this way 12V is transported over 2 twisted pairs of your ethernet cable. The other two pairs is for the ethernet connection. The length...

correct. So I'm wondering how you could ever build a "raspberry pi zero cluster" (without bulky headers) with a healthy amount of processors.

Re: PI 4 eth0 link does not come up via 100Mbps cable

if I connect two GbE ports (the one of a PI 4 and the other on a switch) via an 100Mbps cable I would expect the auto negotiation to use 100Mbps. That was exactly the case with all PIs != PI 4 at least. if I connect any two GbE switch ports via an 100Mbps cable it always negotiates 100Mbps. Works wi...

PI 4 eth0 link does not come up if only 2 twisted pairs are wired up (100Mbps)

I use 100Mbps cables for ethernet connection in some cases. Since 4 of 8 wires are used to supply power to the PI (via an 5V/3A UBEC being placed close to the PI). Dependent on the switch brand this results in permanent link down (e.g. after boot). System is up-to-date and based on Raspberry Pi OS (...

If that is the case, could you confirm to me that once the ethernet adapter soldered and connected with an ethernet cable (RJ45) to the local network/internet box, it provides to the Pi Zero, not only internet, but also power. as being said power must be provided elsewhere of course. To continue wi...
