Re: No sound on 2012-12-16-wheezy-raspian

I'll probably get shouted down for suggesting this but, I too struggled with getting MP3s to play out of the analogue output under startx. My fix was simple. I uninstalled pulseaudio. I tried a lot of things first but this fixed it every time over several virgin SD Card images. I typed: sudo apt-get...

Re: VGA ever going to be implemented in future revisions?

Actually my Hannspree UK 1080P Freeview TV has VGA / Scart / HDMI / Compsite.. Many TV's came with VGA prior to the implementation of HDMi, but as I said above it is more cost effective not to implement Analogue Output on a Digital Device. Likewise my 2 year old LG. 2 x HDMI, VGA, 2 x SCART and, Co...

Re: VGA ever going to be implemented in future revisions?

VGA ain't gonna happen. The chip does not support it. Forget it. It's a dead technology anyway. The composite video costs nothing to implement because it is built into the chip - so it's there and will probably stay. HDMI is the way forward and most PC monitors have either an HDMI input or a DVI con...

Re: Plea for cheap battery PSU for Rpi Robot

My question is to you really need a regulator when running from a battery? Considering how many stability issues are resolved using a better quality power supply, I'd suspect that without good regulation you're just asking for trouble. But, I suppose it's worth a try. I agree. Whilst the Pi itself ...

I too had one of these lying in a box on my desk. I had had it for about 3 years. It works fine.

Re: "Beginners" put off...

The Pi is a remarkable achievement for the price. However there are any number of higher performance single board computers coming on to the market right now. It is an idea whose time has come. The Pi needs to be upgraded regularly in order to even stay level in the current market. it HAS to run bot...

Re: Keyboard repeating keystrokes with PI

I agree with efflandt . I read the aforementioned thread BUT, my estimation was that I was looking at a hardware problem and with my system this proved to be the case.

Re: Keyboard repeating keystrokes with PI

Without actually seeing your problem, there is no guarantee but what you initially wrote described almost exactly the problem I encountered. Providing good power to the Pi is essential to its good working and in my case this fixed the problem. I played around with this today and when I went back to ...

Re: Keyboard repeating keystrokes with PI

Mine did this on an old Ortek wireless keyboard and trackpad. At first I thought it to be my keyboard but I knew the keyboard worked well with Windows and I could see that Linux was picking up the keyboard name at boot time. I switched keyboards to a Dell USB type and it did the same. Hmmm. It turne...

Re: Apps, Apps, Apps

Thanks for all the replies. Right now I only have my Pi on order with Farnell. I have downloaded the Debian distro from here and used Diskmaker to make an SD card. I have all the cables, keyboard and mouse. I have tested my screen with the HDMI output on my laptop. There's a 5V 1A power supply in th...

Apps, Apps, Apps

Where are all the applications for the Raspberry Pi? Apps are what make a platform. Apps are one reason the iPhone has been so successful. We need some good apps for the Pi. I realize that we are not going to get a full blown version of MS-Office here but some kind of text editor, a Calculator (math...
