Re: Accessing lighttpd web pages via usb port

Thank you. I shall try the solution. Speed is not so much a problem but I will see what testing brings.

Thanks again.

Accessing lighttpd web pages via usb port

I have a Pi 4 with some lighttpd web pages. The site works very well from Windows 10 Chrome or from my phone via my WiFi LAN.

Since the Pi uses USB for power I was wondering if it was possible to access these same web pages via the USB port. How would I do this please?

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

That was a good guess and nearly right. Over the decades I have learnt that the more attention I pay to power the better my project turns out. This was the case with valve amplifiers in the 1960s and it is still true today. I have my Pi connected to a wired Ethernet and since it is a Pi 3 it only us...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

It (whatever it happens to be) failed again today. The camera keeps taking images, one every two minutes, the PI keeps on concatenating them into a contiguous video and the filename timestamps are consistent with two minute intervals. Therefore the processor has not stopped. It seems, as yesterday, ...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

No, I am not overclocking. This is odd. What failed externally was that I could not get to the lightppd webpage on my LAN. I could also not get the the login prompt via SSH. I cannot use the console since it is mounted on the roof. The software collects an image every 2 minutes and these are concate...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

I bought the device indoors and left it for half an hour, plugged it in and... it came straight back up. I have not opened the case. Just gave it power and away it went. I have no idea what stopped. All I know is that I now have a problem with my project. I currently have a single box design. It may...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

It just fell over and a power cycle does not bring the login: prompt back up in SSH and I cannot get to the web page. CPU Temp hit 87C just before failure. I have a 2nd device running on the North side of my house and that is happily running at CPU temp of 51C. I need to bring it down from the gutte...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

Yes, that might work. It may be soon time to try these measures. I saved this single frame just now https://photos.app.goo.gl/HLesJCfncCeHKHrx5 As you can see the CPU temperature just hit 86C. It is still working. In two months time I expect the outdoor temperature to rise by a further 6-7C so the P...

Re: Getting the maximum out of the raspi-cam 2 in NOIR darkness

Thank you very much for that excellent and complete explanation. I shall try my best to use raspistill arguments that allow as much automatic control as possible. I am still very much feeling my way with this little project although I now have a feeling that I can see how it will look in the end. On...

Re: Getting the maximum out of the raspi-cam 2 in NOIR darkness

This now works. Thank you for your help. raspistill -ISO auto -hf -awb greyworld -ex night -ss 10000000 -w 800 -h 600 -tl 120000 -t 2147483647 -n -o pic.jpg The main problem was that I had and still do not have access to the HDMI port. It's on the roof. This meant the only way I had to test was the ...

Re: Getting the maximum out of the raspi-cam 2 in NOIR darkness

Thank for your reply. I have done what you suggested with the arguments. Now I'll wait for night and see what happens. This is iterative. Make changes, look at results. Repeat. The raspi-cam sensor is quite good but there are obvious limits. My telescope astronomy camera cost over 2000 quid so it is...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

1. There are no batteries. 2. I can live with a slowdown as it is only during the day. 3. Neither heatsink or fan has much effect in a closed environment. That was why I originally asked the question. I may consider a Peltier cell on the outside of the case as it is metal. The problem is that they n...

Getting the maximum out of the raspi-cam 2 in NOIR darkness

I'm an amateur astronomer. I am using a raspi-cam2 (IMX219 sensor) to take images of the night sky once a minute via a NOIR lens. raspistill is used to take an image once a minute. I am looking to get the maximum out of the camera. Here are my settings Twilight="-ISO 600 -hf -awb greyworld -n -ex au...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

It has a heatsink. I really do not want to put a fan in the box for a few reasons: - the box is currently weatherproof i.e. no internal/external air path for ventillation. - If the fan fails then I am back where I am now. - the outside air is often slightly greater than 40C. I know that is not 85C b...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

That was pretty much what I had thought but I wished to be sure. Thanks.

I shall ultimately put this whole thing on top of a 25M radio mast which is about 45 miles from my house so maintenance will not be that easy.

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

What happens to my running programs and tasks when the CPU exceeds its temperature limit? This is about as concise as I can word what I'm asking. Put another way. If the CPU temp exceeds its limits by maybe 10C , so 95C will the Pi just stop, slowdown, what? Once the temperature has cooled off a bit...

Re: GPU/CPU temperature limit for RPI3

At risk of getting hammered for resurrecting this thread, I have a Pi 3B running an astronomy AllSky camera. The Pi is mounted inside a re-purposed dome security camera case. The whole thing is mounted on the gutter of my sun room which faces south. I have a DS18B20 sticking up into the sunlight 'cu...

Re: Bash subscripted variable output from for do done loop

@scruss, I have started playing with at . It was not on my Pi so I installed it. I seems to be a different approach to what I am doing now but that is not a problem. Re: Bash subscripted variable output from for do done loop

You may be right. I am reluctant to change right now as I am very much a beginner with Linux. I need to learn enough to ask questions if you see what I mean. Here's my cron file that is generated by my shell script named webcam. This is regenerated by the script file every time the webcam file is ru...

Re: Bash subscripted variable output from for do done loop

You are probably be right about the for loop not being a sub-shell. I do not know enough about Linux or Bash to know. I appreciate the alternative solution. Right now my project is working fine. Well almost. I have a cronjob error that I do not understand. cron[372]: (*system*webcam) ERROR (Syntax e...

Re: Bash subscripted variable output from for do done loop

THAT is fantastic. It is very elegant a exactly what I need. It helps that it also works perfectly .Thank you. I did some (well, a lot) Googling and it seems that certainly piping "|" and most likely for loops start a sub-shell to work within and variables within the sub-shell are thrown away when t...

Re: Bash subscripted variable output from for do done loop

Thanks but not quite what I need. Maybe I do not understand what you did. What I'd like to have are variables that I can use inside the same bash script. The input number may vary from 00 - 59 minutes so I could have any numbers from 1 to 5 or 10 to 50 as an output. I am writing a script that writes...
