Just FYI, with identical image on a new SD card, new A+ and new sensor and PCB (thank heavens for always buying spares), the I2C Python SMBus errors are gone. I believe my i2C is running at 100kbps baudrate. With previous versions of the kernel, adding a new file (e.g. i2c_bcm2708) in /etc/modprobe.d/ with options i2c_bcm2708 baudrate=400000 would take the baudrate up to 400kbps. I don't think this method is working with the latest i2c drivers in the new ...
