An OS isn't supposed to "do" anything, its just there to help you create & run the applications that "do" something.

Re: Raspberry Pi 2 with 3g module

Any 3G modem should just be set up as a network interface so you shouldn't need to do anything directly with it from Python.

This little introduction is for Arch Linux but covers most other distros including Raspbian.

decode analogue signals to pick apart the numbers and reply by pressing buttons. I think that technologically your plan is going to have its biggest hurdle on "decode analoge signales" part. I've used a fair share of modems in the 80's and 90's but can't remember any that did DTMF decoding, most of...

You need a Mifare Classic card which has the standard encryption keys for it to work I guessing. > anyone have succeeded on reading the nfc ? Be more specific.

I thought that you could lock the audio to the jack in config.txt but wasn't able to find a exact description of how to do it right now.

You could start with A.L.I.C.E
http://www.alicebot.org/downloads/

Common with Eliza is that they are made to respond to human input not to produce output on their own.

Adding "alicebot" or "AIML" to your google searches will increase your "fu".

Re: USB udev rules does it really work ?

I have made a few udev rules files and have some experience, especially with those tricky usb2serial. The clue is to keep the rules as simple as possible. This is one I have used: ATTRS{idVendor}=="0403", ATTRS{idProduct}=="6001", ATTRS{bcdDevice}=="0400", SYMLINK+="cradle0" The only reason I use AT...

So far you have only shown us what happens up to this point:

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~/Qt_Canvas_drawing $ ./Qt_Canvas_drawing -platform xcb
But its what happens after that which could be interesting.

* Setting EGLFS parameters have no effect unless you are using "-platform eglfs".
* I'm pretty sure eglfs will use whole screen anyway.
* DEPTH = 50 doesn't sound like a good value, 24 or 32 are normal color-depths.

What do you mean by "stuck" ?

Re: RS232 Interfacing on RPi

The question is, do you really need it ? I tried interfacing with the legacy device using PySerial without setting the controls, I did not receive any response from the device. I then had to move to C++ where I can set these control codes and I was then able to successfully interface with the devic...

Re: RS232 Interfacing on RPi

So does that mean the UART on RPi cannot be used as is for my application? It means that you should be aware of it, and use the appropritate convertion chip/circuit. You could also just attach a usb2serial device, and dont use the GPIO pins. I also don't think the GPIO has pins for hardware handsha...

In theory you can just cut the image file in the correct place. ( Assuming that the partitions are at the start of the SD card. ) Or as I did, I copied just enough of the file to a new file using "dd" under linux. What tool you can use under windows to do the same I'm not sure. You can probably goog...

The github page isn't particularly specific about which versions of the kernel it should work with. Which kernel version are you trying to compile it for ? http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/include/linux/usb/serial.h Look at the different revisions of this file, and you will find that "usb_serial...

Are you using just the version that comes with Ubuntu ? That one probably hasnt been optimized to use the necessary hardware acceleration.

There are some special packages made for Raspbian ( ref: viewtopic.php?t=8673 ) but have no idea if they will work with Ubuntu.

Re: console cursor block color

On the real console of a computer the cursor is controlled by the hardware of the computer. But over SSH its the client who decides how the cursor should look. What you can try is ANSI color codes that you can add to your "prompt" but in theory that might only change the color of the text you write....

Re: Image compression - shrink the size

Well if you multiply the dimensions with 4 then you have 16 times more data to deal with, and getting that down to 1-2 kB can be tricky.
Do you need full color ? Black and white compresses quite well with jpeg.
Creating a 256 color palette would reduce the total data to <40% of original.

Re: Image compression - shrink the size

Don't use jpeg, its intended for large photographic images.

Anything that is 16x16 pixels is not a photo.

16x16 pixels = 256 bytes x 3 colors. 768 bytes is the total information vaule of such an image.

PNG, Targa (tga), PGM, XBM, BMP.. all these formats should generate files of around 1kB.
