Re: USB - the Elephant in our Room

Jeez, I just run apt-get upgrade and my PI hangs up now. I have to unplug everything from the USB ports just to do upgrades.

Okay got my new board in and it works great! Actually shipping from China wasn't so bad...ordered the Oct 29th, received it yesterday Nov 10th. http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRSTUk7f_tXuTn76bPzVljb4MUIt3MeNRwv4WmGamoKk-TjOTuqp5Qnjwudxw No problems when testing SPDIF via the the coax and TO...

For those who care about HiFi Performance: http://www.thomann.de/de/behringer_ucontrol_uca_202.htm Moot point if I'm planning on using the SPDIF/TOS connection and let my receiver, which has a high quality DAC, do the conversion. That card would would do the job if I wanted to run analog signals to...

Use the HDMI device as it was intended ;-p
I would if it wasn't hooked up to my TV...I don't want to have to turn on my 100W TV everytime I want listen to Pandora via my stereo receiver...kind of defeats the whole concept of a low powered device.

Re: multiple audio channels bcm2835

I haven't done a ton with pulseaudio, but I'm using it on my Pi without a problem; mostly to stop the popping/clicking noise between songs. No issue with that, but then again, just basic stuff.

Re: Can I do that with Raspberry Pi?

I assume you mean that you'll be using an external USB DVD drive? I haven't done this, but I see no reason why you couldn't do this. You'll probably need an mpeg2 license though. Also, you'll need to install libdvdread and then also review the /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/README.css to handle DVD's wi...

Try installing pulseaudio, might help with the problem. But I do think the sound driver has some more development work that needs to be done.

Re: digital audio

The PI is a SoC (System on Chip) so you have no way of accessing the audio in digital form before hitting the DAC (well outside the HDMI). I looked at the pin layout of the SoC hoping to see a SPDIF pin, but no such luck. But there are a few options, you can get a HDMI converter that pulls the digit...

Yeah forgot about the bluray legal crap...but you can rip and encode which works fine...although, technically, I don't think that's legal either :?

Re: Ethernet noise interferance with a USB Sound card

Rap your USB sound card in aluminum foil and see if the noise goes away. The card you have has no internal shielding, so it's possible that you're picking up some EMF from the ethernet cable.

The PI supports USB version 2 with supports speeds of 480Mbit/s...more than enough for a blu ray ISO on a USB stick...but there are some software issues being worked regarding some problems with USB...seems everyone has different issues, works for some, not for others. A rather lengthy post covers t...

Probably not...the refresh rate on most digital photo frames is slow and would make using it for a display problematic.

Re: USB - the Elephant in our Room

Do you only get the "failed to read register index..." messages before having to reboot, or are there other errors logged to dmesg, too?. Before needing to reboot, no other messages. The irony of it is that if I run Pianobar (shell Pandora client) I don't get the messages and the PI works fine whil...

Re: USB - the Elephant in our Room

So what exactly is the deal with the USB ports on the PI? Do people think it's fixable, but just requires some "blood & sweat" software coding or is it a hardware issue? When I plug in my USB sound card within an hour or two start getting smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0: eth0: Failed to read register index 0x000...

Re: Atari Joysticks

According to one reviewer on Amazon, they had problems getting it to work in Linux, so the PI would most likely have the same problem. I would suggest reading up on Linux joystick drivers and seeing if there are configuration parameters that can be changed. http://www.amazon.com/Atari-PC-USB-Cable-R...

Re: Getting TOSLINK audio: status?

Pin 21 on the GPIO looks to be a digital audio out. You could try using it to send the digital out on coaxial RCA. Not as easy as it seems, you need some external logic to handle sound from the GPIO. Can read more about it at this thread http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-source/201364-raspberr...

Re: USB soundcard...Finally good Analog Audio

Okay, while the sound is vastly better than the on board sound, still not a 100%...maybe 95% happy. Decided now the best thing to do is just run digital to my home receiver and let it's DAC handle the conversion. So just threw down $14 to buy this guy http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/PCM2704-...
