Re: USB - the Elephant in our Room

Well done. Thanks for 'dissing' this educational product that doesn't do exactly what you want (yet), even though exactly what you want isn't what it's being sold as. Then they need to change the FAQ What’s a Raspberry Pi? The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and...

Re: Streaming audio with Python

Not sure if this is your problem but try making the USB sound card your first card. Do this by: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/cat alsa-base.conf options snd-usb-audio index=0 nrpacks=1 nrpacks=1 option might not be needed, I needed it for my sound card though. aplay -l should then show the cards opposit...

Re: Popping/Static noise between songs

not wanting to go the usb way I had seen an HDMI audio splitter - but cannot fine the link now. it was in the area of about £25 or so .. the TV may have a audio pass though or even audio out. [Mine does out that is not passthough] TV's with audio pass-through generally require TV to be on which is ...

And how do you propose he does that if he's using the HDMI connection for his TV?

Best bet for now is to get a USB DAC, the one I found in this post works great http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... t=non+hdmi

Re: digital audio

The card I listed has a toslink that I'm using right now to feed the DAC in my JVC receiver, sound on this card is great. It also has the coax port (Digital) to feed PCM to an external DAC as well. I highly recommend this card.

Nice little app, controls would be great! What you listed as controls are pretty much what is needed, maybe the ability to change a station.

Re: USB - the Elephant in our Room

I'm not saying there aren't problems with some devices. I am saying that we need to separate the true problem devices from the power supply issues. Sounds like you have been unlucky enough to get hold of a bunch of keyboards that fall into the former category and you are not willing to go any furth...

In another shell window (ssh into) run "top" to see what the CPU utilization looks like when you trying to run youtube. Maybe another app is causing issues.

Re: Pi as a webserver

Yes, the PI has those software apps available, but one must remember that on a performance level, the PI is roughly equivalent to a 300MHz Pentium. I use the PI as a personal web server, but not sure how well it will handle multiple request at that same time...I'm guessing under 10 at anyone time wo...

Alsa can sometimes be a pain, the recording rate 8000Hz you chose for arecord is probably not supported by the card. Also you can try this .asound config in home directory. sudo nano ~./.asoundrc pcm.!default { type asym playback.pcm "defaultplayback" capture.pcm "defaultrec" hint{ show on descripti...

Re: USB soundcard...Finally good (non HDMI) Analog Audio

So if I buy this card from alienexpress, It's a matter of plug&play, or does it need configuration? Notice the board is being sold on ebay too, not sure if it'd be a faster deliver this way, also found one that includes a nice case (no Toslink though). I haven't be able to source that case yet to b...

Re: USB soundcard...Finally good (non HDMI) Analog Audio

Both are plug and play. Personally I wasn't a fan the initial el-cheapo USB sound stick I bought...it was okay, but I could hear hissing in the background when I cranked the tunes. but the PCM2704 USB DAC board I bought afterwards can't be beat...sounds great and no horrendous popping between songs....

Re: USB - the Elephant in our Room

There is definitely an issue somewhere between libusb and the device. This is readily expemlified by gphoto2 where repeated calls to the device without resetting USB fail and hang the USB stack. I also experience this with libusb (via pyusb) talking to a device - first acquisition of the device is ...

I'm surprised you're having problems with XBMC on the PI I've been streaming iPlayer, 4oD, TVCatchup without any loss of ethernet or wifi connectivity. Granted the CPU usage does seem to spike when using accessing the XBMC UI but it settles down once videos are playing / streaming. There are curren...

Wierd. Why would the sound not always be on? I'm just asking because I have never had this problem as of yet. Maybe my stereo is masking it with some type of "electrical thump" protection on the inputs? I don't hear it through my DIY headphone amp either. Strange, common problem with the board on t...

Re: USB soundcard...Finally good Analog Audio

I couldn't take the popping between songs with the onboard analog port any more. You can get rid of this by matching the impediance between the rpi and your stereo receiver, that is if the receiver doesn't have this built in already. Usually takes a capacitor and resistor to ground, per channel. Th...
