There have been many threads regards the USB/Ethernet BUS issue and power management.

Whilst I have used without a Power USB Hub, it has always crapped out, hence why use a Powered Hub.

Though must admit have 3 generic Chinese RTL8188CUS adaptors and not all work in every Linux Distro, caveat emptor

Windows NT versions only recognises FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS, they do not recognised Linux Ext File System

The easiest solution is to use a GParted LiveCD/USB, Gparted recognises all popular file systems...
