Re: RISC OS on Raspberry Pi 2?

Another problem with this version of RISC OS Pi, having just tried the latest release on my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, is that some of the software included in the commercial NutPi bundle, which I paid £35 plus VAT and P&P for, refuses to work on the Raspberry Pi 2. As an example, MoreDesk gives the fo...

Re: RISC OS on Raspberry Pi 2?

What is different in Berryboot when compared to NOOBS (which will feature RISC OS for the model 2 quite soon)? Unlike NOOBS, BerryBoot is not compatible with the RISC OS Filecore partition needed to boot RISC OS Pi. It appears BerryBoot only supports Linux OS's for now. http://www.raspberrypi.org/f...

Re: RISC OS on Raspberry Pi 2?

It's just not been packaged in a single place yet. Once it is NOOBS will, no doubt, follow. The RISC OS Raspberry Pi SD card image has been updated to RC14 see here: https://www.riscosopen.org/news/ which runs on all models (that is models A, A+, B, B+ and the model 2) and is available pre-flashed ...

Would it be useful to surround the Pi electronics with a desiccant such as silica gel, in order to absorb moisture in a cold and damp environment?

Re: recompile QEMU for raspberry 2 to use 4 cores

one core of Core i3 of any version already beat the CPU of Pi 2. Silly comment; but to respond - Cost, size and power requirements ? ;) The closet Intel CPU for Pi 2's is N270 my guess, N270 runs Linux and Hackintosh(yup) quiet well, but I have to wait for 30 seconds to boot up the Windows, even if...

Re: Ubuntu on raspberry pi version 2

The Ubuntu Linaro image from winrtmute comes with LXDE, like Lubuntu (and Raspbian). Unity would indeed be too heavyweight for the Pi, along with GNOME 3, Cinnamon, and KDE. The Raspberry Pi Foundation haven't yet released any "official" Ubuntu desktop images (besides the Snappy development alpha, w...

Re: Questions regarding 1080p 60fps video and Model B+

If you are using HandBrake to re-code a [email protected] video (I'm using my Windows 7 PC to do the conversion), the following options might be useful to make it play smoother on a Raspberry Pi, in addition to the above overclock settings which work on Pi 2 ("h264_freq=500" is the crucial one): Under the...

Re: Questions regarding 1080p 60fps video and Model B+

1080p 60FPS video is silky smooth here in Kodi running on Raspbian on my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, with the following overclock settings in config.txt: h264_freq=500 core_freq=500 sdram_freq=500 arm_freq=1000 over_voltage=6 And if you don't mind losing your warranty: force_turbo=1 Upgrading to a 2A po...

Re: Fun with underclocking

Might draw a bit less power when underclocking, too. Probably not enough to measure. It doesn't work like a PC. It will use marginally less for a much longer period, so you don't really gain. The Pis processor is very good at using next to nothing when its idling, and not a huge amount more when it...

Re: Pi 3 & Maynard Feature Request

Adding an ADC to the bare board might bump up the cost too much to fit the Foundation's goals, even in a few years when Pi 3 is ready for prime time, where they will likely want to focus on performance enhancements instead. The majority of Pi users aren't necessarily going to want an ADC, unless the...

Fun with underclocking

To see if it worked, I edited my config.txt file to underclock my Pi 2's ARM CPU all the way down to 25MHz. It worked. Raspbian actually booted to desktop (eventually) on a puny 25MHz ARM. :) I got a couple of timeout errors on booting, but other than that, no problems beside running quite a bit slo...

Re: Run Raspbian on a PPC laptop???

I also have an old PPC Mac, Mac Mini G4 1.5 silent upgrade model, which I use primarily as a MorphOS box. On a slow PPC Mac, if you want Linux, your best bet is to install either Lubuntu (Ubuntu with LXDE) if it's supported on that architecture, or Debian with LXDE (the latter being very similar to ...

I just tried the process with the new image - NOOBS' bootloader got corrupted on rebooting the new build of Linaro after I tried a "sudo rpi-update" on Linaro, so I'm trying it again without that. I'll try again, while on Raspbian on the SD, adding "boot=/dev/mmcblk0p11" to the "/media/boot0/cmdline...

I did a little hack and installed both versions of Raspbian in NOOBS Lite (the second ...
